My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Ruby and just like my name implies, I am a gem of a dog. I am eight years old and small, weighing in at less than 10 pounds. I have long gunpowder gray hair and the softest chocolate brown eyes my foster mom says she’s ever seen. I look like a dachshund mix and am built with short legs and a long body. My little nose is pointy and the hair on the tips of my ears likes to curl.

I was with my original parents and doggie sister my whole life until my parents decided they couldn’t care for me anymore. This means I am wary of strangers and anything new. I am getting better but my new german shepherd stepbrother still makes me nervous when he stands over me or in my way. I have fun playing with my doggie sister or the other smaller dogs here at my foster home. I am better than the cats and have no problem looking down my nose (well up my nose since they are taller than me) at them and their antics. I have no time for chasing them. I would much rather curl up in my foster mom’s bed and sleep. Children with their noise and in your face attitudes make me nervous. I am housebroken and crate trained. I love treats and have no problem falling into the routine of the household. Just tell me to get in my house, and in my crate I go. It is my safe place and I like it there.

My ideal home has no small children or large dogs. I like to sit in your lap or lay in your bed. I prefer quiet over loud and need someone who understands that in the beginning I may snap at you if you startle or grab for me. Speak softly and let me know you are there. Let me smell your hand and I am the sweetest of dogs. If you startle me or grab at me, I feel I have to protect myself. I’m not trying to hurt you nor am I in any way aggressive. I am scared and need a home with patience where I can feel safe and be my true sweet self.

My doggie sister Reecee is available too. If you have room for two dogs we would be happy to be adopted together. Read her story. She is my opposite but I love her anyway.
