Facts about Toby

  • Breed: Beagle
  • Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Male
Lovable Toby is one of our favorite foster dogs. He is Beagle through and through, right down to his beautiful singing voice. At the age of four, Toby joined us a few months ago from an overcrowded New Jersey Shelter, after his owner surrendered him to an uncertain fate. Owner surrendered dogs often have a tough time losing their cushy homes and adapting to a harsh shelter environment that breeds stress and fear.

Toby did not fare well in the shelter. He became unglued, and extremely fearful. His behavior deteriorated quickly, and we were asked to step in before he hit the euthanasia list. We were tickled pink to add another Beagle to our chorus. Toby contributes the falsetto voice that we were missing.

Toby appears to be a picture perfect Beagle in appearance and demeanor and has all the classic traits of a tenacious Scent Hound. He has a sinewy, athletic physique, with trademark glorious floppy ears! He has the classic Beagle low mainenance, tri-color coat, and is at an ideal lean weight of 26 pounds. Toby is true to his Beagle Scent Hound roots. He is easy to entertain with a simple leash walk. Toby loves the outdoors and savors all of the scents that nature has to offer. He needs two to three brisk leash walks a day to engage his mind and meet his energy needs.

Toby is an extremely lovable guy, and generally good-natured, unless you're at the vet. He becomes quite testy at the vet, and we opted to muzzle him for precaution. We recommend that adopters choose a Vet experienced with rescue dogs, and be prepared to use the muzzle to get in and out without a lot of drama.

Toby can be suspicious of some strangers at first, but warms quickly to gentle human touch. He has some sensitivity around his sides, and often will put up a fuss at being picked up. He likes to engage with his people on his own terms, but is more than willing to follow pack rules when it comes to house manners and obedience training. Toby would be the ideal companion for an active single or couple, who enjoy outdoor activities. He would be happy living with a recent retiree or senior, who can provide him at least a couple of leasurely leash walks daily. We'd like to steer clear of children in Toby's home since they may not respect his boundaries.

Toby will bond quickly and love his family, and will want to be the center of attention. If he is relegated to a fenced-in yard or a separate room in an apartment, he will get fussy and bark for attention. Toby certainly could be alone for an eight hour work day, as long as he has toys and chewies to amuse himself, but he is not a fan of isolation. When his folks are home he likes to be in the thick of things. He has a vibrant, intense personality that will thrill Beagle people. He's very typical of the breed.

Toby is in excellent health, has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. About Eskies Online Multi-Breed Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Eskies Online is a 501(c)(3) Multibreed rescue group that serves unwanted American Eskimos and other dogs in need and finds qualified, permanent, adoptive homes for them. In the foster home environment, we are able to evaluate the dog's temperament and behavior patterns away from the stress of shelter life. Eskies Online is funded entirely through adoption fees, donations and the generosity our volunteers.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Adoption meetings are arranged by appointment with approved applicants.

Our Adoption Process...

When we receive your completed application we will check your references, including your veterinarian, and then call you to discuss your situation and requirements.. If you are approved for adoption, we can then discuss with you which of the dogs might fit best into your life. We will either arrange for you to visit the dog in its foster home, by appointment, or transport the dog to your home.

To help cover the veterinary expenses of our foster Eskies and to support our rescue effort, Eskies Online will charge you an adoption fee of $350.00. We do not sell dogs. We charge a flat fee--whether the Eskie is a puppy or an older dog; whether it came to us with minimal veterinary needs or requiring major medical care; whether the Eskie makes a short or a long stay in our foster system.
