When Missy first came to CAHS, she was a bit nervous and shy, but she has started to open up and now loves receiving attention from our volunteers. Upon meeting you, she will put her front paws up on your legs very sweetly to get her head scratched. She was reported by her previous owners to get excited and bark when new people (particularly men) came to the home so she may do best in a nice quiet home where she can relax. She has had very little socialization with other dogs but she did live well with two cats. Missy loves treats and toys, and for the right treat, she will show you a great "sit." She also loves to sniff around and explore her surroundings. Her previous owner was able to leave her loose in the home without any accidents, as long as she was given potty breaks about every four hours. And for something funny, when she was playing with a small plush squeaky toy, she noticed a much larger one across the room and went to that one, even carrying it around though it was twice her size (see pic #2). Come and meet sweet Missy to see if she could be the right addition to your home. Just don't take her to the pet store to pick out her own toy - she'll pick the biggest one there!

About Capital Area Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

For 133 years, the Capital Area Humane Society has been sheltering homeless animals, fighting animal cruelty and neglect, and offering programs to address the needs of animals in our community. More than 92 percent of our funding is provided by donations and fees for services. We are not a government agency, and we do not receive general operating support from national organizations. The Capital Area Humane Society relies on the support of private donors and volunteers to make our work possible.

Since 1883 the Capital Area Humane Society has been dedicated to providing only the highest quality of care for everyone we serve, animals and people alike. We are a team of experts—skilled, caring and compassionate people dedicated to our mission of fighting animal cruelty, helping animals in need and advocating for their well-being.

Our Adoption Process...

You’ll meet an Adoption Counselor to go over applications and discuss the animal you’re considering. We work with you to ensure your family, home and new family member is a perfect fit.
2. We’ll review all the documents and permissions (support from other adults in home, landlord permission and home ownership verification).
3. If your adoption is approved, your new pet can go home with you the same day providing they have had their spay/neuter surgery. If they haven't had their surgery yet, we will let you know when their surgery is scheduled and you can usually pick them up the next day.
