Winnie was a big hit at the Winchester Apartments, where everybody was feeding her and amazed at her tricks. She would approach everybody, rolling around, meowing, and going from door to door begging for food. After all, she was a nursing mamma. Everyone loved her. Due to the no pet policy, we needed to take her into the rescue program and fast, but not before finally finding her hidden stash of kittens! They were in a nearby junk yard hidden and hissing inside an old boat. Winnie does not currently appear to like other animals, especially not dogs. That may be just because of her kittens but it is too soon to tell. She is litter boxed trained, cardboard scratcher trained, and loves to eat table scraps just like a dog. She loves Friskies canned food and Dry Purina One Turkey. She likes to romp and play with her kittens, chase the laser light with them, and roll around in catnip. She will climb up on your bed to find you. She is a good “watch cat.” She meows when she can’t find you or when something seems wrong. About Community Animal Welfare Society

About Our Rescue Group...

Founded in 1992 the Community Animal Welfare Society ( CAWS) is one of the oldest no-kill animal rescues in Utah. Over the last 20 years CAWS, our fosters and supporters have saved thousands of lives including over 600 last this year. As the largest foster home network in the state of Utah we focus on high risk pets in need of additional care and rehabilitation

Come Meet Our Pets...

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.

Our Adoption Process...

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.
