James's Story...
James was taken in by 4Paws from a shelter in Maryland, where he had been found as a stray. He arrived at the shelter already front-declawed, indicating prior ownership, but no one claimed him. He may appear to be solid black, but the tip of his tail is white and he has some white under his left front paw. There are also some very subtle brown undertones in his coat. His beautiful long fur will need regular brushing and combing to help keep it mat-free, and he very much enjoys being brushed.

James is a big boy, characteristic of having Maine Coon in his genes. He is very friendly and affectionate, often head-butting to let you know he wants to be petted, and flopping over on his side in a flirty way to get attention. He is also very playful and especially likes to bat at feathers on the end of a stick being held and waved around for him.

Since he was a stray, we don't know his background living with other cats. He was briefly in a 4Paws foster home and while he did not have direct contact with the resident cats, they walked near him where he had visual contact, but he did not seem to be bothered by their presence. If adopted into a home with another friendly feline, proper introduction procedures need to be followed. Helpful guidelines for this can be found on the 4Paws website.

James was born in July 2016. He has been neutered, tested negative for FiV and FeLV, and has been micro chipped.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

James, a Merrifield Maine Coon cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Maine Coon for sale in Merrifield, or seeking a Maine Coon cat from a breeder in Merrifield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Merrifield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Merrifield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Maine Coon breeders who help with Maine Coon rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Merrifield paves the way for another one to be saved.
