Jay is a 2 year old, 80 pound Lab mix. He is a little over weight and is looking for an active family to help him slim down a few pounds. Jay is a typical happy go lucky Lab. He loves to meet new people and is very confident. Jay's favorite thing to do is play fetch and he will chase a ball as long as you are willing to throw it! He will even throw a ball around himself and try to catch it. Jay needs a home with a fenced yard. He likes to chew and will need to be provided with appropriate chew toys so he doesn't have to find his own. Jay does well with other dogs when given proper introduction. Dogs larger than him do tend to make him a little nervous. Jay will need to be fed separately from other dogs. He is great with kids and has never been around cats. Jay is crate trained and house trained. He does well off leash, but pulls when on leash.

*Dogs are not placed on a first come first serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. If you are interested in adopting a CAWS pet, please fill out an online application at

About Community Animal Welfare Society

About Our Rescue Group...

Founded in 1992 the Community Animal Welfare Society ( CAWS) is one of the oldest no-kill animal rescues in Utah. Over the last 20 years CAWS, our fosters and supporters have saved thousands of lives including over 600 last this year. As the largest foster home network in the state of Utah we focus on high risk pets in need of additional care and rehabilitation

Come Meet Our Pets...

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.

Our Adoption Process...

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at, email or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.
