My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is O'Reilly. He is an approximately 5 year old neutered male Beagle that weighs around 25 pounds. O'Reilly is a great little dog that is looking for his new family. This dog is a nice little boy that is house broken with a doggy door, crate trained, and knows how to sit for a cookie. He likes to relax in the Superman position while he is lounging at home.

O'Reilly is still a beagle, even though he is a really good beagle. He still lets loose his beagle bay when startled, if he hears a noise in the back yard or if another dog is too close to his food. But, for a beagle he is considered quiet. He also has a very strong beagle nose and his sniffer often leads him where he shouldn't be, so he should be on leash whenever he is not in a fenced yard. Please read about beagles because their adorable little faces often make people forget that they are active dogs that need daily walks. We would prefer O'Reilly to be in a home with a yard. He doesn't live with cats and he tested as slightly curious with cats but he had wanted to chase cats in the yard in his foster home so we think it would be better for the kitties in his life if they didn't live with him. He also likes to chase chickens so no caged animals in his life is probably a good idea.

O'Reilly spent 2 weeks living in a foster home with dog respectful kids. He did very well with them and enjoyed spending time with them. However, when we tested him with food and high value items he had very very slight stiffness and hovering over the item, which is an indication in our mind that there is a possibility that he may have some very minimal resource guarding (which is common in breeds that follow their noses). Because of this we think that older kids would be a better choice for him. He has never shown any aggression towards humans other than when initially testing him. He does bark at dogs and hover over his bowl if they try and share with him so he is not a candidate for free feeding or for community food bowls.

O'Reilly loves to go for walks and he will get excited and start dancing around when he sees his leash. He enjoys car rides and sits nicely in the front seat or back seat. O'Reilly needs to be on a high quality food or he develops skin rashes and ear infections and then he STINKS! A high quality limited ingredient kibble or a natural raw diet is needed to keep him healthy and happy. Most of these can be easily purchased from many pet stores now.

If you are interested in learning more about this guy his adoption fees are $175 plus a $10.99 microchip registration fee. He is chipped, neutered, vaccinated, and heart worm negative.
