My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Billy is a really interesting dog. He is approx 2-3 years old and 17 lbs. We have no idea what his breed mix is. He may have some Skye terrier in him because of his big ears, maybe some maltese..

When we first saw Billy at the shelter, we thought he was some hybrid exotic breed dog because he has no black fur on his back or tail. After researching, we concluded that this is his normal coat and he has Black Hair Follicle Dysplasia which is an inherited condition and results in hair loss in the pigmented black or dark hair areas of a young puppy that is purebred or crossed with a purebred. There is no treatment and it doesn’t seem to bother him at all. He is a typically bratty dog, with lots of personality. He can be very stubborn, sometimes can be hard to get a leash on him but once its on, he’s raring to go and hops right up in the car. He is a couch potato and loves his doggie bed or a comfy chair to sleep in. He gets along with the other rescues but sometimes does not like the big dogs and will chase and bark at them. He would probably do better as an only dog and with an experienced owner. He loves to sit on my lap and help me work on the computer and will beg at the fridge for treats if I open the door. He is pretty well leash and house trained. He was turned in the shelter as his owners had a baby that was allergic to him. He can be snippy if you try to get him to do something he doesn’t want to do and is a really smart dog. He gravitates towards some people - no idea why but his foster says he is just picky. He is working on socializing him more, but feels that he would not be good with children and needs an all adult home... If he can run your life he will..he needs someone who can make him the star of the show !!

The total adoption donation of $525 and includes the required interstate health certificate and transport , spay/neuter, shots including rabies, bordatella, parvo, lepto, distemper and canine influenza, and micro chip with a lifetime pre paid registration. The total amount is payable to Shaggy Dog Rescue which is a 501c3. Some of our dogs are still in Texas in foster care. The application is online at http://houstonshaggydogrescue.org/application-process/

Just as a note, if you are in Massachusetts and are adopting directly from Texas rather than from a local foster, there are new quarantine laws in effect. All rescues must be quarantined 48 hours at a state run facility, and in addition, a second interstate health certificate is required to be issued by a Massachusetts vet. This new law may add an additional cost.
