My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Who is a heart stealer? I am! Hi there! My name is Penny and I am just about the most perfect little beagle that ever lived and I have absolutely stolen our hearts of my foster family! I am loving and happy all the time and am a joy to have in the house they say. When I am moving, my tail is constantly wagging. From the moment my foster family picked me up at Safe Hands, I have been a dream foster. I am completely calm in a car and I would be happy to go on a road trip to just about anywhere. I actually like baths too and did not make a peep when I got my first one! It was really relaxing! I just stood quietly the entire time without struggling or trying to get out of the tub. I do not mind getting my nails trimmed either. I mean who does not like a pawdicure! I really like to look my best. I get along great with other dogs and also get along with grumpy resident cat. I am very respectful of other animals and their space but will happily cuddle with them if they are ok with it. Snuggling is awesome! I am equally respectful of younger and older children too. I am very gentle around people when I first meet them and am very happy to be petted. I am not frightened by anyone I meet, whether child or adult. My foster mom says I am very mellow. They think I had to have been a Buddhist monk in a former life! I really like walks on a leash with a harness and follow commands just about perfectly. If I am in a fenced space, I am in heaven. Usually my nose in glued to the ground as I sniff every square inch of space and, of course, my tail is going a mile a minute. My foster family says it is so fun to watch me as I happily explore the world. My ideal home would be one that has a fenced yard because I follow my nose where it takes me. I am a beagle and beagles love to be outside exploring. I am doing well with commands too. I am about 90% house trained. The secret is to let me go outside a lot; I will potty every time I am outside, even if it is just a little. I do not really appreciate my crate. I sleep in bed with the humans and resident dog. I am a tiny little thing so I barely takes up any space. So far nothing seems to faze me in terms of typical household noises and activities. Storms do not phase me either. When the humans are out and about, the resident dogs and I hang out in the bedroom. We have access to fresh water and basically sleep on the bed the entire time. I am not a chewer and do not really care about toys. I am an amazing beagle looking for a new family to spend my life with!

Penny is estimated to be 8 years old and 22 lbs. Since we don't know at all what doggy genes are in the dogs make up (we don't know who mom and dad are!), we are just guessing on breed.

All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They have all had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer, are treated for fleas, have a heartworm test if over 6 months old and are up to date on a heartworm preventative.

Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis. If you are interested in meeting this dog please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website at http://www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and we will get back to you to arrange a meeting in the foster home.

We are also having an adoption event at R&D Bio-techne, located at 2001 Kennedy St NE Minneapolis 55413 on Saturday, August 5, from 12-2pm. Please bring a copy of your pre-adoption application.
