Meet Georgia, a beautiful two and a half year old, forty-five pound, Shepherd mix! Georgia was previously owned by an elderly woman who couldn’t care for her. She was persuaded to give her up and then was dumped into a local animal shelter with her puppy (Peach - who now has a wonderful home!) When Georgia first arrived at her foster’s home, it was evident that she had not had a lot of positive people experience. She quickly adapted to the love being given to her and is now quite affectionate to her human. She is crate and house trained and walks well on a leash. She gets along well with the resident dogs and is starting to show interest in playing with them. She has not met the resident cats, but the foster doesn’t seem to think that they will have issues. If adopted into a home with cats, a slow introduction is recommended. Georgia has a calm, quiet demeanor and enjoys human attention - even being groomed! Georgia requires a patient family that will allow her to adjust to her new surroundings and requires a home with a fenced in yard. Georgia is fully vetted, including spay and is heartworm negative. The foster is happy to answer any questions! For NC adoption visit today!

About The Maggie Society

About Our Rescue Group...

The Maggie Society Rescue, Rehabilitation, & Education is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Wilson, North Carolina dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected and abandoned dogs.

Our fabulous fosters provide dogs and pups with loving temporary homes where they learn basic house manners and how to be an integrated part of the family. Our dedicated volunteers work to find well-matched, carefully screened homes, while other volunteers help with transports that send our dogs to their forever homes with our northern partner rescue groups.

We also serve as a resource for our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter and other essential vetting, positive behavior training, good nutrition and how dog owners can provide a quality life and maintain good mental and emotional health as well as physical health.

Our Adoption Process...

Application Review Process - Once we receive your application, we will review it to see if you meet our adoption criteria.
If you have pets that are not properly vaccinated, we will decline your application. This includes cats that are kept indoors at all times. If you have pets that are not spayed/neutered, we will decline your application. If you listed a vet reference, we will call your vet to verify your information. If you do not have a vet reference, we require 2 non-family, personal references.
If you application is accepted, we will do a home visit. If the home visit is not acceptable, you may be denied or given the opportunity to correct any issues. All applicants must be 23 years of age or older.

We often receive several applications for the same dog. We do not base our decision on the order in which the applications were received. We review each application and make our decision based on what we feel is the best fit for each dog. We reserve the right to decline any application that is not in the dog's best interest.

Adoption Agreement - After your application has been approved and you have chosen your new family member, you will be required sign an adoption agreement before we can finalize your adoption.

Adoption Fees - All adoptions are $300 which can be paid via cash or check at the time of adoption. THE ADOPTION FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE. All dogs/puppies are fully vetted and vaccinated as age appropriate and have been spayed/neutered. If they were heartworm positive, they will be treated prior to adoption.

About the Adoption Fees - The Adoption fee is a NONREFUNDABLE fee given to The Maggie Society so that we may continue our mission of saving dogs. If the time comes that an adopter can no longer care for the dog, it is understood that NO REFUND of adoption fees will be given and that the dog must be returned to The Maggie Society.

Adoption Day - When you come to pick up your dog, all adoption paperwork will be signed. You will be required to bring payment at that time. Please also note that you must come with a collar, pet-id tag with your name and contact information on it, and a leash (British Lead type leashes are preferred).
