Guinness is a big, handsome boy who LOVES scratches and attention! He hardly holds still for a photo because he loves to rub back and forth on your legs, purring all the while. He loves to "knead" and, even resting, you can see his paws curling and paddling as he purrs. He seems to be good with cats (interested but not pushy) and wary but not scared of dogs (may hiss or give low growls, but hangs around to investigate). Guinness was a stray that no one claimed, but he is now enjoying the indoor life (he uses his litter box perfectly!). He loves attention and petting (and he'll be your new best friend if you brush him!), but doesn't quite like the idea of being held or carried. Guinness is FIV positive--you can learn more about FIV here: http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/Health_Information/brochure_fiv.cfm.

About Columbia Second Chance

About Our Rescue Group...

Second Chance Makes Families
Second Chance was founded in 1985 as a privately-funded, all-volunteer organization dedicated to rehoming unwanted animals. Some of our animals come to us as strays or from local shelters, while others are given up by families who have to make the tough decision to find a new home for their animal. Through the kindness of our volunteers and our foster homes, we care for dogs and cats while we search for their new forever home. At no time are animals euthanized just because they don’t have a home. Our animals patiently wait to find just the right person or people to complete their family. Second Chance follows best-practice recommendations in order to provide our animals with the best quality medical care, food, socialization, and training available. Our volunteers and donors ensure that we can continually strive to increase the number of animals we care for each year.
For 32 years, Second Chance helped the homeless pets of Columbia in several locations throughout Boone County. In 2010, we moved into a modern building of 6,000 square feet on over 30 acres of scenic views, just off of I-70. This location allows Second Chance to house some adoptable cats in our spacious Kitty Kondos. All dogs, kittens, and any animals requiring extra medical care or socialization are still housed in our dedicated foster homes throughout the local area.
As we look toward the future of animal rescue, we hope to be able to increase the number of animals and community members help each year. You can help us achieve this goal by donating, volunteering, adopting, and educating. Contact us to find out more about us!

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our adoption center is open on the weekends.
Saturday from 12-5
Sunday from 1-5
We also are at the Petco in Columbia, Mo on Saturdays from 10-12 each week. There is no guarantee the animal you are interested in will be there, but if you call earlier in the week, we will make an effort to have them available.

Our Adoption Process...

An adoption contract can be found on our website. Please fill out the contract and state the animal you are interested in. One of our great volunteers will be in touch with you.
