My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Khione is 2. At this time she's with the family who took her in but she'd like to have a family of her own. Here's what they say about her...

Khione is 44-lbs of sweet, loving, and friendly energy who wants nothing more than to be surrounded by the people and animals who love her. She's been tested with big dogs and small dogs and has responded beautifully -- she will engage other dogs in play if they want, but with an easy verbal command she can be mellow and calm. She has a lot of experience with and patience for young kids. She blended in seamlessly with our family, which includes a female Pit Bull mix and a rather temperamental cat; she's great friends with our dog and has been submissive to our cat with no interest in chasing.

Despite her young age, Khione is a rather low-energy dog. Depending on house rules and her mood, she likes to sleep on the couch, the floor, or the bed. She does get excited and wiggly when her harness and leash come out for walks, which she enjoys. She likes napping in the car on road trips, going to the river, and playing with her toys. She shares toys and people with other dogs and hasn't shown any food guarding issues. We believe Khione would do equally well in an active home with kids or in a devoted, adult-only home. She's had no accidents in the house and holds her bladder all day while we're at work.

Khione tends to bark an alert when she meets or sees new people, something that emerged recently and is likely related to her family and life changes. With calm redirection, loving attention and the confidence that comes from having her own home, we believe this will settle down for her. We've been working with her on it on walks and have seen an improvement already.

Khione has no health issues except a recent case of hives, which are thought to be related to an environmental allergy. She was prescribed Hydroxyzine, which she takes as needed with great results. It's likely these allergens will go away during Fall rains. I'm happy to share more information about the medicine, dosing, etc., for anyone interested. Otherwise, outside of this new outbreak of hives, Khione is a healthy and robust pup.

If you've been considering opening your home and heart to an easy, lovable dog in need, please be in touch. While we are eager to get her settled into her forever home, we will be patient in this process in order to ensure Khione goes to a stable and loving home where she will live a long, happy and healthy life.
