My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name?
My Fosters call me Missy.

How old are you?
I don’t remember my birthday, but my Foster Mom thinks I’m between 18 mos and 2 years. I think we should have a birthday party every six months, just to be on the safe side.

How much do you weigh?
I am 41lbs (that’s a medium in dog collars).

What do you look like?
My foster mom says I look like a permanent puppy. Did you see my pictures yet? I have shiny slate grey fur with white on my toes, nose, and a huge spatter of white down my throat, chest and belly. I even have a little white heart on my heel!

What do you like to eat?
Food. Pinecones. Ice. Once I caught a mouse in the backyard and I split it with my foster brother, Sam. I like Taste of the Wild Salmon and grain free treats because Sam does and I want to be just like him. Foster Mom likes it because I don’t fart.

What kind of personality do you have?
I am VERY curious. I like to know everything that is happening, especially when we are outside. Do you want to explore with me? New places with all their sounds and smells and moving pieces can distract me from people at first, but in familiar places I want to be where you are. I’m always checking in. And I LOVE to play and go for walks and WRESTLE. Sam and I wrestle any time I can gnaw him into it.

Describe your perfect day:
I would wake up at the same time as yesterday, and would go out then come in and eat, just like yesterday. I love routines and am very quick to figure out what happens next. I think every day needs a good wrestle or a walk or a trip to the park. And a nap. Naps are very good. I need to rest up so I have energy to play!

What is your favorite toy?
BONES!!! Please? I also like sticks and pinecones and squishy rubber footballs.

Do you know any tricks?
Oooooh! YES! I can Sit and I am learning “Wait” (Stay). I have very good manners to wait for my dinner, and I know “Gentle” when Sam and I start playing too rough. I don’t listen to Foster Mom when she says “Come,” but I like when she calls me “Missy” so I will usually drop what I’m doing to go find her. I also learned “Empty/Go Potty,” which makes Foster Mom happy. I am also learning to ring a bell to tell Foster Mom when I need to go outside.

What scares you?
Nothing. Except fans, sometimes… The power went out and the ceiling fan kept going, so I KNEW that wasn’t right, and Sam agreed with me. A few nights later there was a tower fan that kept moving side to side and no one did anything about it! Sam walked around it to make fun of me, but then it attacked him (Foster Mom said he bumped it, but I think we both know she’s just making excuses). We barely got away with our lives.

Have you been around children? Do you like them?
I’ve never met a child. Do they like to play? Will they give treats and rub my belly and let snuggle them? Then I think I would love them and might jump up to give them kisses in their face.

Do you like cats?
Oh yes! But they never want to wrestle. ???? I wag my tail and play bow and bark at them…but they all run away. Sigh.

How do you feel about other dogs?
Dogs are my FAVORITE! Sam can be cranky, but I always want to be where he is, doing what he’s doing. Always. Foster Mom says that sometimes he just needs a break. We wrestle and snuggle and play inside-outside and go on walks together. I also like little dogs, though I might squish them if we wrestle.

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I think I could live with you anywhere, as long as I had a wrestle buddy or lots of walks or park time.

How is your health?
I am in excellent health! I am getting spayed July 25, and they’re also going to give me all my shots and a microchip (so everyone knows you’re mine). I don’t think I have any allergies, and I have a great smile!

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I live with my Finders and their bossy seven year old Golden Retriever Samson (I love him). I probably spend the most time with Sam and Foster Mom, but Foster Dad takes me for walks! We all live on a ranch with LOTS of other people and other animals like horses, cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, a goose, and a goat.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
The couch or my beanbag or right by the door. But I’m never really alone because Samson is always here too.

Where do you sleep?
The couch or my beanbag. When the weather was cooler I crawled into the dog bed with Samson, but we got too hot. He’s like a giant fuzzy heating pad!

Do you like walking on a leash?
I love it! When Foster Mom found me, I knew how to “Heel” properly - walk around behind her to the left side and everything! - but there are so many things to see on the ranch that I sometimes forget when we’re walking here. I also know how to “Wait” when we get to a door or gate to let you through first.

Do you have any "not-so-great" habits that we should know about? For instance, do you bark or dig in the yard?
The first time my Fosters left me I whined and barked, but with Sam here, I don’t do that any more. I learned that if I casually bump the garbage can just right, it will fall over, so the Fosters put it behind a door. Foster Mom also reminded me that sometimes I forget that shoes aren’t toys. I don’t tear them, but Foster Mom says tooth dents aren’t in fashion.

Are you house trained? (Meaning do you go potty outside)
I prefer to potty outside, but sometimes my bladder doesn’t get the memo when Foster Mom and Dad have an abrupt, long change in schedule. I don’t have any accidents indoors when they stick to the routine, even when they are gone for 8 hours! Foster Mom is helping me learn to ring a bell to tell her when I need to go out, and she said she’s going to teach me “crate training.”

Do you like playing in water?
Oh yes! My bridge foster had neighbors with a pool. At first I was afraid, but after I got in the first time, it was my favorite part of the day!

What do you love about your foster family?
I love that they are always happy to see me and want to snuggle me and that they referee for Sam and I so we can wrestle even harder! They feed me (very important), and Mom gives me belly rubs while she does my nails. #girlsnight

What was your life like before being joining NBBR?
I can’t say a lot about my life before Foster Dad found me running around in the road. He says I almost got hit by a truck, but I think he was overreacting. When Foster Mom tried to find my old home, several neighbors and even the mailman all vouched that they’ve seen me running around that area for about a year, and I haven’t gotten hit yet! Unfortunately, I also didn’t have any ID and no one actually knew where I lived. The two houses where neighbors thought I might live both said they didn’t know me. Which is a shame, because I’m great! I know that someone must have loved me a lot because I’m very smart and have excellent manners.

***NorCal Bully Breed Rescue is a foster based rescue with foster homes spread all throughout the Sacramento area. We usually require our adopters to be within a 50 to 100 mile radius of us, depending on the dog, and depending on the home. This is because we need to do a yard check to guarantee that the potential adopter's yard is secure, and also have them be close enough should any behavioral issues arise, and the assistance of our trainer is needed. We are, however, willing to adopt out of our area, including the Bay Area, Tahoe, and even further. We've even adopted out of state on very special occasions. We try our best to match our dogs to the perfect homes, and match them based on their personalities, not their looks. Adoptions are not done on a first come, first serve basis, rather in the order of what homes are the right match for that particular dog. Our adoption fees are based on the dog and range from $200-$350. In the case of senior dogs (6+ years), fees will be waived to the right home. This includes spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, and deworming (if necessary).

Interested in meeting Missy or any of our available pooches? Complete and submit our adoption application on our website norcalbullybreedrescue.com and we will respond to you within 24 to 48 hours.
