My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sammi is fostered in Greendale, Wisconsin through United Yorkie Rescue http://unitedyorkierescue.org
Sammi is an 8 yr old, 5 lb. Yorkie girl who came to United Yorkie Rescue in July 2017. Sammi spent her first 8 years in a puppy mill and was surrendered 6 weeks ago to a Wisconsin Humane Society. She was in poor condition when they took her in, but is now doing much better. Sammi is underweight...she should be at least 6.5lbs.
She has quickly adjusted to her new fur siblings (all girls) and has fully explored her fenced yard and foster home. She is in good health, although she is still a bit too thin and needs to put on another pound. She is somewhat house trained: you need to watch for her signals that she wants to go outside, and take her on a schedule. She loves being outside and loves looking out the windows, even when she is riding in the car.
Sammi has a genetic defect with her ears. The tips look like they have been snipped on the edges, but they weren't., it's an anomaly in external ear growth she was born with which doesn't affect her hearing or her looks. She has a cute little "flying nun" appearance that couldn't be cuter!
Sammi will need the love and patience of a home that understands her start in life was not the best, but that she has lots of love to give, she just needs time to learn to be the loving companion that she's learning to be!
With some time in care now, it's been noticed that Sammi doesn't like to walk on a leash and she doesn't understand the concept of house training. This is not uncommon with dogs that have been used for breeding. They have never learned to be good house dogs, they weren't taught and in fact learned behaviors suitable to cage/breeding life, so the need patience and consistency in their new home is important. Considering her extreme anxiety on a walk (she goes stiff and bites at the leash), it will be important for her to have a fenced in yard that is secure. Her preferred home is one where the new owners will be home most of the day to help her with the house training. She's a sociable little girl who follows her foster mamma around and wants to be with her at all times, so time and patience should be the key to her learning and becoming that good house dog. She doesn't like to be crated or gated off...that seems to cause her distress. If you have patience and vinyl floors, she could be your perfect companion. Sammi will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive from Milwaukee, WI so that support can be provided with her training, if needed..
