Anyone wanting to adopt a German Shepherd MUST have knowledge about their needs. These are very intelligent dogs that need lots of exercise, both physically and mentally.

Please discuss and consider if you are now, and will be in the foreseable future, in a financial position to provide to the dogs needs, unexpected vet bills, and common health issues specific to the breed.

ADA was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 26 May 2017. On 24th July at just under 3 months she weighed just over 10 pounds. ADA has been listed as a GSD/ Husky Mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think she breed/s is. Her mother is a petite (35 pound) husky type mix girl White with blue eyes, VICTORIOUS, but there is a chance that ADA is going to be quite a bit bigger than her.

Ada is still a puppy and will need a dedicated family that has the time and patience to work and teach her how she is expected to behave. A family who will not get angry or upset if she chews their shoes or has an accident inside. She is a baby and although very smart and responsive, she needs to be guided in her mannerisms and behavior and continue to let her beautiful personality develop.

Ada is a sweet, affectionate, playful, high energy fun loving girl. She is great with other dogs and is always chasing and playing rough with her mother Victorious, who is still currently here at the rescue waiting for her forever home. Ada plays great with the other pups that are here. She has learnt to be respectful with the other adult dogs and enjoys their company. She had had little contact with humans when she arrived at the rescue and although is comfortable coming up and snuggling with me, she does take a little while to warm up to strangers. She isn't comfortable getting picked up, or carried around, but there should be not many reasons to do that with her.  We do not have cats in the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around them.

Ada does use the dog door to go outside to do her business although she will not know to let you know if she needs to go outside.

Ada is young and high energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a must. She would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that she can burn off some of her energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. She will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Maddi and her humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. She has not had a collar or leash on and so leash training will definitely need to be worked upon. A family that understands her initial caution of people and new places, that will help her develop her confidence and trust.

Ada is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550.

This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations  and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
