Cody's Story...
Cody is a 2-1/2 year old male who was turned in by his owners who didn't have time for him.  He has spent his whole life in an outdoor kennel with little or no human interaction. He knows sit and is learning very quickly other commands.  He has not had any accidents in his foster home so far. He walks on a leash well with a Halti or Gentle Lead.  He gets along with his foster brother and the three kids in his foster home. Cody's Foster Mom says he is one of the sweetest fosters she has ever had and so appreciates very pet or love.  He doesn't know what to do with toys, but his foster brother is trying very hard to teach him. Cody is not 100 % Golden Retriever on the outside, but his has the biggest Golden heart.  The vet techs fell in love with him. When Cody's Foster Mom told him he would spend the rest of his life in a house with people loved him, she truly thinks he understood.

Cody is current on vaccinations, neutered and heartworm negative. He is ready for his Golden Beginning.

Foster Update 1/9/09:

Cody continues to blossom and is one of the sweetest Goldens I have fostered.  He gets along great with other dogs and would be best in a house with other dogs or with stay at home humans.  He is great with kids and LOVES daily walks. He knows his basic commands and has learned to play with toys and wobbies.  Cody is doing much better with riding in the car.  While it still makes him nervous, he will now get into the car on his own. Cody is completely housetrained and is very laid back.

Cody will make a great addition to any family.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Cody, a Houston Golden Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Golden Retriever for sale in Houston, or seeking a Golden Retriever dog from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Golden Retriever breeders who help with Golden Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
