Silas is a young, playful purebred chocolate & white Australian Shepherd around one year old looking for a home with a playful female canine companion. He was found by Good Samaritans who got him safely to DASH so we could find the best-matched forever-home.

Silas's foster Dad says 'he is really sweet but is the alpha dog here (in their home at this time, with their 9 month old Aussie mix male, another female foster of DASH's & their 5 year old smaller mixed breed male), and sometimes plays pretty rough and can sound fiercer than he is. He can be protective of what he considers his toys and his people.' However, the female foster has an old injury & the family male dog doesn't play much; we don't think Silas is an Alpha Male in every home. He loves to be on couches and sleep in the bed.'

Silas is housebroken and crate-trained. He definitely needs a 2nd dog that plays at his level. He does not bother the foster family's cats. Although the foster family's children are 8 & 12 we think Silas would do best in a home where the kids are 12 and older.

Silas is a beautiful young Aussie who needs a loving but patient and also strong, Aussie-knowledgable home with at least one active companion dog to complete his New Forever.

General Info - PLEASE READ! *Our $350 adoption fee is based on the cost of rescuing, transporting and vetting each dog; we do not try to compete on prices with municipal shelters whose funds are paid by the city. Our philosophy is to rescue highly adoptable dogs, have them live kennel-free in private homes for temperament assessments and individual personalities.

We work hard to match EACH dog with the right family - kids or no kids, other dogs male or female and/or cats. With very rare exceptions all dogs over 6 months will be spayed or neutered PRIOR to adoption - dogs over 6 months will include a spay/neuter date AND referral info for lower-cost surgery if the adopter does not choose to use her or his personal vet. OUR VETS WILL NOT PERFORM SPAY NEUTER SURGERIES UNTIL DOG IS 6 MONTHS OLD.

Please READ ALL of our info below BEFORE SENDING APPLICATION.

Our goal is to help our puppies and dogs find FOREVER HOMES AND FAMILIES, NOT TO MAKE IT PROHIBITIVE FOR YOU TO ADOPT. However, once we review the application and contact you we MEET TO ADOPT, so please let us know if you are ONLY APPLYING TO STAY ON FILE or THAT YOU ARE READY TO ADOPT, for the consideration of our puppies and dogs and families who know the time is right!

About Dallas Australian Shepherd and Herding Dog Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

I am the Executive Director - I started DASH with a select group of co-rescuing friends and neighbors because we saw a need to rescue very adoptable dogs from Death Rows at municipal shelters and believe through foster care we can work with and train these dogs to be ideal family pets.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not have a shelter - we accept online applications and either have individuals meet at foster homes or we will bring dogs to a safe, fenced neutral area - depends on situation.

Our Adoption Process...
