My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet King! I am 55 lb. border collie with an athletic build, and I get told often that I'm a very handsome dog. I love to go on several long walks each day and play fetch. One of my favorite things to fetch and play with is a soccer ball- they are so much fun! I love chewing on chew toys and bones. Sometimes I will look up on the countertops to see if there is anything interesting, and if there is, well sometimes a pup just can't help himself! One of my favorite things to do is to ride in the car. Sometimes my foster family takes me to the bank and they give me free dog COOKIES! Can you believe it??? I'm a good boy with other dogs, I especially like puppies because they are soooo much fun to play with. My foster sister is a 35 lb. runt who flips me over when we wrestle, and because I am a nice boy I let her win. I have learned how to sit, lay down, target touch a hand and I'm learning how to stay. My foster family says that I am very smart and I learn quickly. I think I learn especially fast when they give me MEATBALLS as a reward! I am housetrained and my foster family lets me have free range of the house while they're gone. I think cats are too much fun and I like to chase them so I need to go to a cat free home. A funny fact about me is that I have no tail! I get called “Wiggle Butt” when I get excited because my nub and my whole rear end wags! I don't mind that nickname because it’s true. My foster family doesn’t really mind that I don't have a tail because that means that I don't knock things off the table like my foster siblings do. I am looking for someone to be the center of their universe, and me, theirs. I am happiest when I am with my HUMAN as much as possible. I'm basically a really dedicated shadow. I like going with you to the laundry room, watching you fold clothes, going with you to the bathroom, waiting outside of the shower for you, watching you cook dinner, watching Netflix with you, sleeping beside you while you do your taxes (borrrriinnnggg...), sleeping beside your bed until you wake up... you get the picture. I get sad and bark when I'm not with you. Ok, I'm going to let my foster mom have a turn now and let her tell you about how wonderful I am! King is a five-year-old border collie who was found at a shelter in Atlanta after his owners turned him in. Once comfortable with his humans he is a very devoted border collie who loves being with his foster family and is wonderfully playful with other dogs. He loves to eat, and is a constant shadow to his humans. He loves being around them, and you will never find him lying by himself. He needs someone that can spend the majority of their day with him. He would not do well in a home where he was an afterthought. He also needs an experienced dog home because he can be reactive at times. In a few circumstances he has growled, barked and bit at a new person when they try to be too familiar with him too soon – like coming at him directly to pet him, or coming up behind him to scratch his back when first meeting him. With new people in the house, King will ignore them and doesn’t show any aggression, but he needs to be eased into knowing anyone that wants to initiate contact with him. In his foster family, he quickly chose his foster dad as his favorite and was standoffish and wary with his foster mom. She started training with him and became the only person in the house to give him treats. That changed his mind about her very quickly, and he now seeks her out for affection. King will need everyone in the house to respect his space early on, so that he can develop a bond with them. He does best when he can slowly get to meet new people and they give him space so that he doesn't feel threatened. Treats really help him develop trust with you. Once comfortable he is loving and playful. King will do best with an adopter that wants a companion border collie and who will play with him some each day. He also needs an adopter that can work with him to be more comfortable around new people. He’s definitely worth the investment, because he is such a good boy once he feels safe. An environment with a fenced-in yard, other dogs in the house, a little bit of exercise, and patience will make King an excellent addition to any family.
