I am Lucky. I love kids. I am sort of slow to warm up to people and animals. Usually within a few hours I am fine. My foster mom says I am a big baby because I follow her all over the house wagging my tail. When she looks at me I want to be held. I get along with cats, older kids, dogs. I really like my new very large fur brother Jake.  He is a German Shephard/Rottweiler.  I keep trying to lay under his mouth. I love to play.  My foster mom took me to Petsmart and got me a harness. It is  bright green and looks great. I slept in my kennel last night, but I have not made any messes in the house so I think I might get to sleep with my kid brother on the pull out couch. We live on a lake and I love watching the boats going back and forth. I am so ready for my full time home. My foster mom says the best home for me will have a dog and a child around 8 that knows how to treat a dog.

Update: 8/7/17 - I am getting much better at potty training. When my foster mom gets up in the morning, she immediately takes me out and I poop and pee. She tells me what a good boy I am. Then I come in and get breakfast. I show her I have to go again by standing at the door. When my foster brother should be up I get to jump on his bed and jump all over him.  He laughs and hugs me.  I run all over the house and they all laugh. I get so many hugs and kisses.

About Ruff Start Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Who We Are & How We Do It

We are a small, but mighty, Non Profit 501c3 Rescue. We are a No-Kill dog and cat rescue organization in Central Minnesota. Our rescue is composed solely of volunteers who love animals. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats and work very hard to place them in new loving homes.

This group is comprised ENTIRELY of volunteers who work full-time doing something that pays the mortgage. We do the rescue stuff (which is our true passion) after work and on the weekends. So if your phone calls or emails are not answered by a live person right away, it’s probably because we are at work and will call you as soon as we can!

By Choice

We do not have a shelter. We are of the belief that a home environment is far more desirable than a shelter or kennel. So, we rely exclusively on homes like yours in which to place our pets until they find their forever home!

We work exclusively with a foster-care program where our pet lives with you, and we pay for or provide everything. A home environment is always the most desirable and with the endless supply of animals needing homes, we just never have enough lined up. Sometimes the foster lasts a week, sometimes several months. A dog or cat will do far better adjusting when they are sitting by your chair or next to you while you are on the computer than stashed in a noisy kennel somewhere surrounded by sick and barking dogs.

We Can't Take Every Surrendered Pet
Because we don’t have a shelter, we can only take a new animal IF we have a vacant foster home for the pet to live while we seek a new forever home for him. OR, if you agree to hang onto the pet while we help them find a new home. Sadly, we are not able to assist every animal that crosses our path. There are just too many dogs & cats out there who need help. But, we DO have an extensive list of people looking for specific dogs and cats - so if you can hang onto your pet for a little longer, we might be able to assist you in placing them. No promises, but we promise to do our very best to help you find your pet their new forever home!

Our Mission Statement:

Ruff Start Rescue, is dedicated to saving all animals whose lives are at risk. Located in Princeton, MN; we are determined to educate the community about the importance of animal rescue and safety. Come Meet Our Pets...

All of our animals are in foster homes. If you would like to meet a foster animal, please fill out an application on our website:! We also have our animals available at adoption events at local Petsmarts! (Monticello, Maple Grove, and Coon Rapids).

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption process we go through is to have the potential adopter fill out an application on our website: There is then a background check done on the potentional adopter and if they pass the background check and home visits we set up a home visit! If the home visit passes, the adopter can then adopt the animal they're looking at after meeting them.

There is an adoption fee. This fee depends on the vetting that the animal has already needed. If the animal is too young and has not yet been spayed or neutered, you are required to sign a contract and agree to have them spayed or neutered.
Adoption fees range from $200 - $300
