My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SABLE IN HOUSTON, TEXAS HAS BEEN ADOPTED

If you have a little extra room, it would be perfect if Sable and her friend Gizmo could be placed together. We believe they would feel more secure moving to a new environment as a team. See Gizmo’s bio for more information on this sweet boy.

Sable is a sweet 5 yr. old, 12 lb. girl who was surrendered to NBGR, along with her friend Gizmo, because of her owner’s failing health. Sable is a very happy girl and adores getting all the attention you can dish out.

In her previous home Sable was crated for very long hours, with just enough room for her bed, food, water, and a pee pad. Now that she is no longer confined for so long she is adjusting to life outside the crate. She needs to be on a strict potty schedule and monitored to make sure she goes outside. If not watched when she goes out, she can get busy and forget the all-important mission.

Sable was never taken for walks, and although she is not a pro yet, she does surprisingly well on her leash. With practice, she will do great. She is a pro at cuddling! Sable has a tendency to want all the attention, so she needs a home with a family who will make sure she understands it’s not all about her and there’s plenty of love to go around to all the pets.

Sable gets along well with other dogs. When she was visiting the vet, she didn’t so much as bark at the others, but her tail did wag a lot. She does well with her tiny foster sister but needs to be reminded not to bump her aside to try to get all the attention. Sable eagerly greets people she meets, but she has not been around children, so we will need to place her in a home without young children.

Now that she isn’t stuck in a crate all the time, Sable is not a big fan of going back in. If you can accommodate her preference, we feel she would do well being confined to a laundry room with a baby gate while her new family is away. Until she has proved herself trustworthy, we do not recommend her being free to roam the house while you are away.

Sable loves to eat as much as she loves attention. Her foster family is working on portion control and scheduled meal times so we can help her shed a few pounds off her small frame. If she is placed in a home with other dogs, she will need to be watched closely so that she doesn’t try to help others with their food.

This little girl is happy, as sweet as they come, and will be a wonderful addition to the right family. With a little practice, patience, and time to settle into her new home, she will no doubt find her place in the middle of your heart.

If you want to help Sable be the very best she can be, please let us know by completing an adoption application. If you have already adopted from NBGR, just email Connie Lawrence to let her know.

Sable is completely vetted, micro-chipped, and ready to melt your heart.

Keep in mind that we prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to fly in to get the dog and that can only happen if the dog is stable enough to travel in the cabin with the passenger.
