Mikki is a five-month old field coated black cocker puppy.  He has a long natural tail and is an athletic and friendly little guy.  He has the energy of a puppy, but is attentive to commands and very focused when walking or during training. He seems wise and thoughtful for a puppy.  Mikki is house trained, and uses a doggie door, but likes a schedule and reminders to go outside after meals never hurt. He walks on the leash with little pulling, gets along well with other dogs, and just loves snuggling with anyone. He is also crate trained and will sleep in a crate at night, but would prefer to sleep on the bed or with another dog in a dog bed.  Mikki also just loves toys, toys, and more toys!  He will entertain himself for over an hour with a basket of toys, pulling them out, chewing, pouncing, and finding anyone or dog to play a gentle tug of war.
Mikki came to Shorewood with his brother, and while we don’t see them being placed in the same home, it does seem best that he be placed in a home with other dogs.  He bonded quickly with the other dogs in the foster home.  He will need additional training, but he is very bright and responsive. His nickname at the foster house is Houdini since he is a bit of an escape artist.  He can manage to climb over small fences, slither through small child gates and fences, and if left to his own devices, will tunnel under a fence as well. While he will probably outgrow most of these tendencies, Mikki definitely needs a dog proofed fenced-in yard.  This little dog is such a treasure and his soulful little looks are just precious.  He will be one loyal little companion in his forever home.

We do not encourage adoptions to families with young children. We are very concerned about the well being of your children as well as that of our dogs. We realize that each case is different and our adopting dogs to families with children 10 years of age or older will be based not only on the children's age but their exposure and experience with the Cocker Spaniel and other dog breeds. Sorry but we will not place a dog in a family with a child under 10 years of age, unless there is already a dog living in that home.

About Shorewood Cocker Rescue, Inc.

About Our Rescue Group...

Shorewood Cocker Rescue, Inc. has been in existence since 1985 and we have rehomed hundreds of Cocker Spaniels since then. In 2001 SCR became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a Board of Directors. Our organization is run by volunteers and all of the dog's taken into our program are placed in foster homes where they live as much loved family members until we can find an approved and appropriate forever home for each of them. We make a life time commitment to every dog taken into our program. We take as many cockers as we possibly can as private surrenders, from shelters, from places where dogs are just held for 7 days and then put down if not reclaimed, mill and commercial breeding operations. We do not turn a dog down based on it's age and are very successful with rehoming senior dogs as well as rehilabitating and shy mill dogs.

We do what we do out of love for the breed and wanting to help as many cockers needing help as we possibly can.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We hold many adoption events in various cities and locations in Wisconsin and Illinois. Upcoming Events are posted on our Scheduled Events Page at our Website.

Our Adoption Process...

Our Adoption Process is clearly defined on a page on our website as well.

All wanting to adopt must complete and submit an adoption application. There is a non refundable application processing fee of $10 prior to any application being process. References provided on the adoption application are checked. Once approved for adoption, family is asked if there's a dog currently on the website listed as available for adoption that they are interested in. The foster home for that dog contacts the party interested providing any updated information and answers any questions. We do require a home placement visit for placement of our adoptables. If that goes well, we do require an Adoption Contract be reviewed and signed.

Adoption Fees are subject to change on an as need to be basis but currently are:

Under 1 year old - $300.00

1-6 years old - $250.00

7-9 years old - $200.00

10 years and older - $125.00

We hold many adoption events in various cities in Wisconsin and Illinois where people wanting to meet our dogs are welcome to do so. The dates, times and locations for these events are posted on our Scheduled Events Webpage on our website.
