Shortie is a 5 year old, 12 pound Chihuahua/Beagle mix. Shortie just wants to be with his people and cuddle. He will sleep right on your pillow with you if you let him or under the covers at the foot of the bed. He will follow you from room to room but will also just chill out if you are cleaning the house or moving around too much. Shortie is mellow, but doesn't understand kids. He would do best with older kids that will not be too loud or sudden with him. He would do best with a quiet family that is home most of the day to snuggle him. Shortie is good with other dogs, but can be a little protective of his resources. He's not a fighter, but will growl if he feels threatened. Shortie is good with cats. Shortie is house trained and is trustworthy when left alone in the house. He is crate trained. Shortie hasn't had much experience with leashes and walks, but is quickly learning that they are a good thing.

About Community Animal Welfare Society

About Our Rescue Group...

Founded in 1992 the Community Animal Welfare Society ( CAWS) is one of the oldest no-kill animal rescues in Utah. Over the last 20 years CAWS, our fosters and supporters have saved thousands of lives including over 600 last this year. As the largest foster home network in the state of Utah we focus on high risk pets in need of additional care and rehabilitation

Come Meet Our Pets...

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.

Our Adoption Process...

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.
