This is Miss Eve's story as told by her foster human:

Eve's story started New Year's Eve 2013 in Detroit. Just under a year old, her former "owners" moved out leaving Eve fenced in a yard with no food, water or shelter for weeks. This was a VERY bitter winter and as temps crept below zero, the neighbor (who had been feeding her scraps) finally called for rescue. Being NYE, most rescuers were at parties. We had a baby and I had broken my shoulder blade so we were home and took her in. I've never SEEN gratitude like I did that night in Eve. She wouldn't leave my side.

Little did we know, Eve was clearly not from a loving home. Terrified of feet, unwilling to walk through a door way out of fear (I'm guessing she was kicked), my husband and I would take turns in freezing weather anytime she went out to potty, working to gain trust to get her to come inside. Finally, after nearly 6 months, she learned it was ok to walk through the door to inside.

After about a year, Eve got adopted, but then she ended up being returned and came back to our home. Because our other dog decided that she doesn't like Eve, we have to keep them separated. While Eve gets time out, walks and love from us as much as we are able, this is not a long term solution. Eve needs a forever home of her own.

Eve needs a home with either no dogs or a very passive, playful male. She has never lived with cats but has been tested several times and has shown little interest - I'd only insist on proper intros and supervision until we're sure. She LOVES kids but does jump so I would like to see her in a home with older kids or no kids.

Eve is a cuddler, but her adopters need to be patient, experienced dog owners who are willing to work with her on continued training and socialization.

If you can give Eve a home, either forever or temporarily (foster), please contact Safe and Sound Rescue (safeandsoundrescuemi@gmail.com email is best). Eve needs someone to give her the time and love she deserves after such a long road. She keeps getting failed by humans. Let's get Eve a family she can call home.

Approx DOB: 2/2013
Adoption Fee: $150

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process is similar to that of most other responsible rescues. There's an application, an interview, a meet-and-greet and a home visit as well as reference and vet checks. We encourage foster-to-adopt trial periods.Official adoption status comes after all requirements (including sterilization) have been met.
