About Yakima Humane Society
About Our Shelter...
The Yakima Humane Society was founded in 1904, becoming an incorporated entity in 1906. We are a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization proud to be serving the people and animals of Yakima County for over 100 years. We practice and promote the humane treatment of animals through animal control services, pet adoption, humane education, information, referral and quality animal care.
The Yakima Humane Society is committed to ending animal suffering and cruelty, reducing animal overpopulation, and educating the public regarding responsible pet ownership while promoting community kindness and commitment to their welfare.
• We are an independent, nonprofit organization. We are not associated with any government agency, nor affiliated with any national organization.
• We are the only open admission animal shelter in the entire county. All pets are welcome here. We can never, and will never, close our doors or say we're full.
• We save more than 5,000 animals a year. With no time limits.

Our Adoption Process...
Find the love of your life at the Yakima Humane Society
Our progressive adoption program places thousands of lost, abandoned and unwanted pets with loving families each year. The adoption fees help offset the cost of evaluation, housing, feeding and medical care for the thousands of animals that need our help. We do our best to keep adoption prices reasonable while generating income to support our goal of caring for animals available for adoption until we can place them in a loving home.
Our adopters tell us that our professional staff are warm, friendly, informative and patient as they assist adopters in finding a love match. Our mission is to help you find a pet that meets your expectations and lifestyle.
Our staff is helpful and courteous throughout the process. You’re invited to visit with a prospective pet in one of our "Meet N' Greet" rooms. We also offer "Meet N' Greets" for adopters wishing to introduce a current dog to a potential new playmate.
For more information regarding our adoption procedure, please contact our Adoption Lead, Kelly Shields at firstname.lastname@example.org.
