Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Disoriented and terrified, after likely suffering an appalling betrayal by their former family, Whoopi and a sibling, Fabio, were found by a fellow cat rescuer in Highland Park (Brooklyn, NY). Being unfamiliar with what is needed to properly care for and provide for guinea pig well-being, he quickly reached out to us for help. Now safe in their separate foster homes, Whoopi and Fabio are learning, and slowly adjusting to human kindness and knowledgeable care. Already seen by our vet, and with new spacious housing and daily outside of cage time, our new friends are getting comfortable while they await for their forever human families to come along.
Whoopi, a shy but inquisitive lady, is a food critic in training, showing us just what she thinks of her foster's mom culinary skills in making of her two daily salads. Most likely having been subjected to improper nutrition up until now, we are happy to see this young lady take a passionate stand to a new aspect of her life. For instance, if an item, that was a part of the morning salad, accidentally happens to appear in the evening one, Whoopi will politely, but with fixed purpose, take it out, and leave it on the side of her plate until her foster mom notices the grave error, and learns from her mistakes. Being most likely forcefully handled in the past, Whoopi doesn't have the trust and confidence to allow being picked up and held, and would rather interact with humans and other piggies, inside of a secure playpen, when she can come and go of her own volition.
Given her past, it will take time for Whoopi to heal, and be ready to allow herself the carefree antics only a truly comfortable and loved guinea pig shows. Her squeaks are quiet and far in between now, but a day will come when miss Whoopi will live up to her name, and show everyone just what a mighty WhoopWhoop sound she has!
Whoopi is an Abyssinian guinea pig, around 4-5 month old, in good health as per our vet, and ready for her new life to begin. If interested in meeting and adopting Whoopi get in touch! Email adopt@emptycagescollective.org.
Please note- Whoopi is ONLY looking for a home that has either another female piggy (or two!), or a neutered male guinea pig already there.
