Myrtle is a beautiful smiley girl that came in as a stray with her dog friend Norma. She's about 30 lbs and maybe 2-3 years old. She's a very sweet girl that smiles and had an adorable underbite. If she is not reclaimed by her owners during the stray hold period, she'll be available for adoption or rescue. For more information about Myrtle, please call the shelter at 256-771-7889 during their business hours: M-F 9AM to 4:30PM (closed from Noon to 1PM for lunch) and Sat 9AM to Noon. About Athens-Limestone Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

Athens Limestone Animal Shelter is under contract with the Limestone County Commission and the city of Athens, Alabama to shelter and maintain the unwanted animals of Limestone County Alabama. These animals are delivered by Animal Control Officers and from individuals who live in Limestone County.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We are open Monday-Friday for adoptions from 8 AM to 4:30 PM
On Saturdays we are open from 9 AM to 12 PM

Our Adoption Process...

The fee for adopting a dog is $110.00, no matter the age or gender of the pet. This fee covers the cost of the animal to be spayed/neutered & vaccines: DA2PP, Bordatella, and Rabies. The adoption fee also covers a fecal exam for worms and a heart worm test!

The fee for cats is $110.00 covers spay/neuter, and age appropriate vaccines.

It is very important that you understand that you CANNOT take pets from the shelter and breed them. Most of the animals came in as strays, therefore, we do not have any background or genetic information on them. Breeding these pets would not be in their best interest nor yours. Also, a Law was just passed in Alabama which requires that EVERY animal, adopted from a shelter, MUST be spayed or neutered!!
