Meet my foster baby Nutters. He is about a 10 months old now (I got him when he was about 8 months old.) I love this little boy and would love to keep him; however, I can’t or I won’t have “room” to foster and save more. My husband and I have an agreed upon number and, as supportive as he is, he will not allow going over that number. He’s a meanie! 
When Nutters first came to us he was terrified. He wouldn’t let us touch him, would not take treats from us and just basically avoided people at all cost. He crouched in the floorboard of my car when I picked him up to bring him home and welded himself to the floor when I tried to get him out. My heart breaks each time I see a pup so scared – especially of me! I am the LAST person that any dog should be afraid of.
We brought him in and he is a different dog now. He initially grew to accept me. He wouldn’t go near my husband for quite a while. He now spends his evenings on the couch in between us and his nights in the bed between us. (I did say my husband is supportive in my fostering – right?)
Nutters loves other dogs and that would be a must for him. He would not be happy without that companionship. He loves me and my husband. He is hesitant with anyone else that comes over. Fortunately, we have other dogs to greet our guests so they really don’t mind him not jumping on them too! He will just avoid guests. He won’t hide from them but he won’t go near them. If they try to pet him he will simply back away. He doesn’t get aggressive at all, he simply retreats.
Whoever adopts Nutters will need to be very patient for a while. It took about three weeks before he began to get comfortable with me and a few more for my husband. We simply brought him in and let him interact with the other dogs (we have three permanent, one part time and three grand pups that visit) and he began to see that we hadn’t hurt them so we gained his trust. He will not be forced into anything so it will take time. I can’t be forced to be comfortable either.  Someone commented the other day that I had done wonders for him, my reply was that, he has done wonders for himself. I put him in the situation and treated him like the others and HE did the work. I just sat back and let him do it in his own time.
As far as potty training he has come a long in this area. Imagine not having any parameters for the first 8 months of your life and then having the expectation that you have certain places to potty. It takes time with humans so it will for him too. He still has accidents. However, if he was with a family that had the time to take him out on a regular basis and reward him for his “good deeds” I am certain that the accidents would be rare if at all. As it is now, he will go a few days with no accidents and then he will have one.
Nutters is a happy puppy. I still call him a puppy because for about the first 8 months of his life he had to fend for himself so now that he is comfortable he CAN be a puppy. He has all of the same mannerisms of a puppy. He loves his toys and chewing them (even chews a yummy shoe on occasion). He loves to play. He loves treats. He loves his people and gets excited when we come home. Like I said, he is comfortable and can finally be a carefree pup. He was denied this earlier in his life.
I would love to chat and fill you in on more details. Just check in and you will be given my information and I can help you decide if Nutters is right for you and if you are right for Nutters.

About Our Rescue Group...

Pooches & Purrs Cooperative is a group of rescues and individual rescuers that are working hard to find loving homes for the dogs, cats, kittens and puppies that find their way into our care through no fault of their own. Each individual or group has several wonderful dogs In Tennessee, Alabama or Kentucky looking for homes! All of them are completely vetted and neutered/spayed (if age appropriate) and on heartworm protection. All of them come with complete medical records. Their adoption fee of $500 covers their complete age appropriate vetting and as well as their transportation to your area in Upstate NY.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We have a 14 day money back guarantee and the pet can be rehomed appropriately if things don't work out. Each group tries hard to get good matches in your homes so that everyone has a happy life together! To date the cooperative has placed several thousand dogs and puppies, cats and kittens in loving homes! Each group has many, many, references of happy adopters that can fill you in on their experience. Just email and they can pass along that information for your convenience. Thanks!
