Meet Lizzie! This beautiful girl came to us after she found herself at the Mahoning County Dog Pound. Lizzie is about 5 to 6-months-old and was turned in as a stray. We believe she is mostly German Shepherd, but we don't think she is purebred. The listed breeds of our rescued dogs are our best guesses, seconded by our veterinarian.
Lizzie is a very high-energy girl who is looking for an active home. She would benefit from a fenced-in yard where she could have a safe place to run and play. Lizzie is doing well with her crate, leash, and house-training and will require a patient adopter to continue her training. Lizzie is being fostered with other dogs, cats, and a toddler and has done well with everyone so far. She has displayed some food guarding tendencies (around other dogs, not people), and her foster mom is working with her on this. She is underweight and this could be the cause of her guarding.
In order to adopt Lizzie, we require that you are at least 21-years-old and own your home. Unfortunately, we are not able to adopt large-breed dogs to renters as we have seen too many occurrences of dogs outgrowing weight limits, families moving to new homes that do not allow large dogs, and landlords changing their rental policies. Any current pets must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations and heartworm prevention - we do conduct a vet records check to verify this.
Lizzie's adoption fee is $350 to cover the cost of her care and vetting, which includes her spay surgery, heartworm test, microchip, Rabies vaccination, DHLPP vaccination, Bordatella vaccination, fecal test, Drontal dewormer, monthly Revolution for flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and a nail trim. Email today - Lizzie won't be with us long!
