Oscar came to us as so many of our dogs do, he crossed the path of one of our fosters while running alone in the streets. We were so sure that he would have a family scouring the planet looking for him, look at this face! But, sadly, nobody came for him, so it’s time to find him a forever family!
Oscar is an 3-year old Chi-Weenie mix. He is roughly 15 pounds and fully grown. He is a medium level activity boy, so he would be fine living an apartment or condo situation. Even though he is small, it is important that his adoptive family be committed to proper daily exercise and socialization.
Oscar currently lives with other dogs and does great with all of them. He loves to run and play with other dogs, but would be fine as a solo dog. He has met and done fine with cats, but does not currently live with cats so he would need a proper introduction to them.
He has also met kids and was fantastic with them, but he does not currently live with children. Given his age and general personality, we think he’d be fine being placed in a home with children who have been taught how to be respectful of animals.
Oscar has done really well learning and adapting to his foster home, but a new family will be an adjustment for him. Oscar will be best suited family for a family that understands that dogs can take time to acclimate to their new homes - which will likely include having accidents, crying in their kennel, and chewing on things they are not supposed to.
We expect our dogs to be adopted by families who plan to keep them as indoor pets and part of the family. We do not adopt to families who plan to keep dogs outside unattended for an extended period of time, for example the entire workday.
Oscar is fully vetted (vaccinations, neuter, and microchipped). He does not have any known health or allergy issues. Unfortunately, because Oscar was previously not well cared for, he is heartworm positive. He has been started on treatment and the rescue will provide the medication he needs to complete his treatment protocol. He is healthy and will have no long term health effects as long as he is given his medication on time each month.
