My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET COAL!! This fabulous guy is about 3-4 years old. He was part of a group of dogs we rescued from a rural shelter this past summer. Sadly, Coal was a stray that no one came to reclaim. He is a super sweet boy who is pretty laid back. He walks well on the leash and is well mannered. Coal was heartworm positive when we first got him, but he has now completed treatment. We have learned a lot about Coal since he has been in his foster home. Read through the foster updates below for more info about Coal!

FOSTER UPDATE 9/1/17!!! Just wanted to send an update on Coal and share some recent pictures.
He is such a sweet boy and it is obvious that he is very happy to finally be in a real home. He is understandably still pretty timid but has honestly come a long way in just the 2 weeks that he’s been with us. He gets along well with our dog and other dogs that he has met in the neighborhood but we’ve noticed he’s not especially fond of the ones that want to get up in his face, even if they are just trying to get him to play. We think he would be fine in a home with other dogs as long as they are on the more mellow side, basically dogs like him.

He has a go with the flow attitude and just wants to be wherever you are. He rides very well in the car and enjoys going for walks at the park. He isn’t a huge fan of sleeping in a crate so we’ve been letting him sleep on his own bed in our room at night and haven’t had an issue. Today we discovered that thunderstorms make him uneasy, so we made our own version of a “thunder shirt” (just a regular t-shirt), which actually seemed to help. He is housetrained for the most part, aside from the occasional accident, but we are working on that. He is well mannered otherwise and doesn’t get on the furniture unless we call him up. He is a handsome boy and we think he might have some Pointer or maybe a little Weimaraner in him. While he’s still on the skinny side at the moment, he has a very healthy appetite so hopefully he’ll put on more weight soon.

FOSTER UPDATE10/10/17!!!! Coal is a total sweetheart and continues to gain confidence every day. He had his first heartworm treatment last week, which he handled like a champ. He does need to stay relatively calm until his treatment is complete, but so far that hasn’t been too difficult since he’s a pretty easy going guy anyway. The vet was pleased with his overall health and thought he maybe looked a little thicker, although the scale didn’t necessarily reflect that. We are taking her advice and increasing his food a bit more to hopefully pack on a few more pounds so he’ll be even more handsome than he already is. He keeps us entertained with his goofy personality and the way he follows his foster sister around wherever she goes. One of his favorite things to do is play tug with her even though she rarely lets him win 😉 He has such good manners and is completely house trained now. This gentleman is a real catch and he’s waiting patiently to meet you! Won’t you give him a chance to steal your heart?

FOSTER UPDATE 11/9/17!!! Coal is doing so well! For starters, he had his *final* heartworm treatment last week – YAY! 🙂 That being said, in just a few short weeks he’ll be able to run around without restriction and get back to being just a regular ol’ pup. Fall has finally arrived and Coal is enjoying going for walks and playing at the dog park in this cooler weather. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, he is sporting a new festive bandana. Check out what a handsome little turkey he is in these pics! We are all keeping our fingers (and paws) crossed that Coal will be fortunate enough to spend the holiday with his new forever family. So if you’ve got an open seat at your Thanksgiving table, this sweet boy would be so grateful to have the opportunity to occupy it! Unfortunately Coal is unable to attend the adoption event this Saturday, but he wants everyone to know that he will gladly schedule time to meet up another day if you think he might be the one for you.
