Say hello to Misha! He has been in and out of homes for the past 5 years. He found his way back to us for reasons such as his owners were moving, another was having back surgery and couldn't keep him, one couldn't provide proper care for him, another he didn't get along with other cats in the family, and finally he came back to us because the owner no longer wanted to care for him. This poor guy just wants a home to call his own that he can spend his days relaxing and getting affection when he can. He enjoys playing with water and loves snacking on fruits such as raspberries, peaches, and blueberries. He has had a history of hyperthyroidism, but currently does not need any medication to maintain it and just needs to eat special food for his thyroid. Misha longs for a stable home to live out his the rest of his life-could that home be yours? Come meet Misha to find out if he's the right fit for you! Every day is a great day to adopt!

*Misha's adoption fee has been paid for by a Guardian Angel*

About Santa Maria Valley Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

We are a "NO KILL" Humane Society and non-profit organization dedicated to placing homeless dogs and cats in permanent, loving homes and assisting in any way we can to remove barriers to responsible pet ownership.

The Santa Maria Valley Humane Society is a private non-profit organization that has been serving the Santa Maria Valley for over 30 years. We are committed to providing shelter and care for homeless cats and dogs. At our facility on West Stowell Road in Santa Maria, we currently have 28 indoor/outdoor dog runs, three community cat rooms and two kitten rooms in Cat Village, which can handle up to 40 cats/kittens.

Our adoption facility accepts pets from people who are no longer able to care for them and we work diligently on finding these pets a new, "forever" home. We also accept animals from other shelters or rescue groups to save lives and relieve overcrowding. Our low cost spay/neuter clinic sterilizes thousand of animals each year, helping to address our community's overpopulation of dogs and cats.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We are open to view animals, schedule spay/neuter appointments, make a donation, or to answer your phone calls Tuesday-Sunday 11 am - 6 pm. We are closed on most major holidays, but please call to confirm.

Our Adoption Process...

SMVHS operates an adoption program for cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies.

Families or individuals who would like to add a pet to their household are encourage to visit our shelter to see if a cat or dog staying with us will be a good match for their lifestyle and home. We have adoption counselors who help to "matchmake" animals and adopters. Adopters can take their new cat or dog home with them that same day after completing an adoption counseling session with one of our adoption counselor.

By choosing adoption, not only are you finding a loving companion, but you are also saving a life.
