Sophie is fine with other dogs for the most part, though the reason that she is up for adoption is due to a conflict with the other female dog that she lives with. Sophie formerly lived with a Chihuahua and was fine with it. She got along great w/ several dogs she met at GSRSV's rescue ranch when I evaluated her; she is not dominant at all and didn't object when another dog moved in on the ball that her co-owner threw for her. (See video of Sophie playing fetch elsewhere on this page.)
Sophie is not good with cats.
Sophie is housetrained and well-mannered inside. She responds well to basic commands, as can be seen in the fetch video. Sophie walks well on leash and has good recall off-leash. She enjoys car rides and is a calm passenger.
Sophie loves to play fetch and to bite the water stream from a hose.
Sophie's owners Kathie and Chip adopted her from a private party in mid-July who had to rehome her due to a forced move following a burglary. Kathie & Chip have a female Akbash dog that they wanted to get a playmate for. The two dogs got along fine for the first week but then got into a pretty bad fight, reportedly started by the Akbash. Since then, Kathie & Chip have been keeping Sophie and their other dog separate, not wanting to risk a second fight--which seems imminent now that the two dogs have developed a rivalry of sorts.
Sophie would likely be fine in a house with a male dog, or perhaps a non-territorial female.
GSRSV has evaluated Sophie and is placing her as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is placing Sophie through its adoption program while her owners continue to care for her.
Sophie is located in Vacaville. Her adoption fee is $210.
