My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

✰✰ ROAN Male 2 years & AVAILABLE - for more photos of ROAN please click http://norcalbcrescue.org/roan_2017.html ✰✰

ROAN is a super cute, snuggly tri color border collie looking for his forever home. He is approximately 2 years old. ROAN has an easy-to-care-for medium coat with attractive “feathers” on his tail and legs. His optimal weight will be about 42 lbs. (he’s currently working on putting on a few pounds). ROAN likes cuddles, and walks, and to help out in whatever his foster mom happens to be doing! He is keen to be a part of your activity and loves to be close to his people.

ROAN is a very sweet and happy dog who is eager to learn new things. Everything seems to be a new experience for him – walking on leash, crates, mirrors!! ROAN is what we refer to as a “soft” dog so when he gets his nose into something he shouldn’t he listens well to a gentle correction. ROAN appears to be relatively low energy for a young border collie; however, his energy level may go up as he gains confidence in his surroundings. ROAN is most likely going to be a “velcro” dog, meaning that he will want to stay very close to his people. When out on walks he will occasionally bump up against his foster mom’s legs, or the resident border collie walking with him, just for reassurance.

ROAN is very puppy like and adorably clumsy, stepping onto the foster family’s older kids when he wants to snuggle. ROAN would love to learn basic commands and more. He is willing and eager to please. He approaches most new situations with curiosity. Interestingly, he is a bit afraid of ceiling fans, but he’s learning the fan is not actually a monster. Though leash walking appears to be new to ROAN, he doesn’t pull and is quickly learning from his foster sister that zig-zagging is not the way walks are supposed to be done. ROAN doesn’t show any interest in balls or toys, but he does play well with other dogs. He does not chew things or show any signs of destructive behaviors. ROAN is well housetrained. He isn’t a barker, however, he is a bit of a “talker” – he “sings” to greet members of his foster family and will softly grunt with pleasure when he is getting attention.

ROAN likes people and dogs. He would do best in a home where he can spend a lot of time with his person, “helping” them with their daily activities. He would enjoy being a running or hiking partner. Although ROAN does well with older children, a busy family would not be ideal for this sweet boy who wants to be a part of everything. ROAN has shown interest in cats, so a home without a cat would be best. Typical for border collies, he will do best with both mental and physical activity. ROAN loads up well and enjoys car rides. ROAN sleeps well in his crate at night, even as he is working on crate training. He isn’t always happy about going in his crate, but once in, he’s pretty good about staying in there quietly.
ROAN is micro-chipped, neutered, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations.
