My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello. My name is Trixie and I am a 4-5 yr. old, 23 lb. beagle that needs to find a quiet home with someone who has room in their heart to love me. Somehow, I ended up on the streets all by myself. I spent my days and nights wandering around a neighborhood in North Carolina. I was out there for several weeks and kept getting into the trash because that was the only way that I could survive. People tried to catch me, but I didn’t trust them enough to let them get close to me. A humane dog trap was set for me and before I knew it, I was safe in the trap. I was taken to a shelter where I was given food, water, and a roof over my head. It was actually a big relief to not be alone anymore and to not have to fend for myself. Even so, I didn’t know how to tell those people how much I appreciated their actions. The shelter staff spent time with me every day, but it still took 10 long days before I trusted them enough to let them touch me and evaluate me. I passed my temperament tests, but the shelter felt that I would have a better chance at finding my forever home if I went to a place where someone would have more time to work with me. Penny Angels Beagle Rescue stepped up to help and it was the best thing that could’ve happened to me.

When I arrived in Rescue, I was scared. I didn’t show any aggression, but I was definitely nervous. I was now in a new place with unfamiliar faces all around me again. The volunteers were very gentle and kind, and those are two qualities that I definitely need in a new owner. I am not good with quick or sudden movements, so a home with older kids or adults would be best for me. I get along fine with other dogs and will sleep next to them on the doggie bed at night, but I pretty much keep to myself during the day. I am not a fan of being picked up or held for any length of time, but I won’t get too upset if you have to do it. I am learning to use the doggie door in Rescue when I have to go potty and I am okay with using a crate because that becomes my ‘safe place’. I am making progress in Rescue and even started wagging my tail today! My Rescue momma says that I am a very sweet doll! I know that she is hoping that I will find my own forever home very soon! Do you have time, patience, and love to share with me? I will be at Petsmart in Mays Landing, NJ again on Saturday from 11- 3 pm if you want to meet me. Won’t you please give me a chance? Nobody looked for me or came to reclaim me at the shelter, so maybe you can be the one to show me kindness and give me my forever home!
