My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When Forrest's rescuer walked down the aisle of the dismal Texas shelter, she was shocked to see the adorable (and extremely dirty and matted) Forrest tucked tightly into a cage...his time was up. Farfel's immediately got a call describing how incredibly cute and sweet this Schnauzer/Terrier mix is..and the need to save his life. We immediately agreed and Forrest became a very treasured Farfel's dog. He earned a ticket to a wonderful new life in Colorado with his great temperament that held every possibility for a great future.

This is not a photo that shows the sweet and mellow side of this sweet boy. Through his frightened expression, you can see that Forrest is a gorgeous guy who is very frightened by his intake at a dreary shelter. We've requested new photos but have yet to receive them. We'll update as soon as we do so.

At just about 18 months old and 14 lbs, this very beautiful pup is a blank slate waiting for positive input and guidance to be the best dog he's capable of being. We'd love to match Forrest to a home that will spend lots of time with this very portable guy. He's a perfect size to accompany his family just about anywhere...and would love it.

Positive reinforcement group obedience classes will not only provide socialization and great skills...but will cement the relationship between Forrest and his family. He's so smart that he's a natural to succeed in learning his skills...and would be so excited at his success!

Forrest gets lots of attention when he's out and about with his foster because he's a stunning guy. He's engaging (while a bit shy at first) and as sweet as can be. Forrest appears to be a Schnauzer mix but we would never swear to it. He's just an adorable and fun scruffy guy that's irresistible!

When Forrest turns that gentle look in your direction (with those amazing dark and expressive eyes), you can't help but smile at his adorable ways. You can see a bit of a sign that this young pup has had difficult times. But not for him to be negative..a smile and a wag is more Forrest 's style once he's acclimated to his new environment. It's clear that he is working hard on leaving any pain behind.

Farfel's Rescue is searching for an adult or retired family for Forrest. It's not that he actively doesn't like young kids..it just appears that Forrest is more comfortable around quieter energy. A retired couple or individual or a person working at home would be perfect for this guy. He would thrive on the time and attention that these groups often put into their pets. Forrest , once bonded, will be a loyal and very loving companion....that makes him very easy to spend time with just enjoying the wonders of life in Colorado. Forrest would also enjoy time with dogs of similar size who can be gentle playmates. When you weigh just 14 lbs, even a very well-adjusted pup can be intimidated by large, rambunctious dogs.

Forrest is a very happy guy once he's comfortable...a bit of patience, treats and belly rubs will truly get this guy's attention as he's had far too little of all in his life. Forrest 's foster mom is very happy to report that Forrest is coming out of his shell more each day...he's blossoming. She's very clear that Forrest will be a wonderful and bonded family member when he has love and nurturing as a part of his life.

Forrest will be arriving on transport in Denver on Friday 8/18/17. Applications are being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
