My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Rocco is a genial little guy, who was found as a stray in a good samaritans backyard. He was brought to a busy animal control facility and did not seem too happy to be there. Rocco didn't seem to adjust to shelter life very well, and quit was quickly put on the euthanasia list. Soon, he was rerouted to us so that we could evaluate him in a less stressful environment.

Rocco has really come out of his shell nicely, and has become a lovely dog. He is somewhat shy with strangers at first, but he warms quickly, and with a little patience becomes quite peppy and fun-loving. He appears to be a mix of Beagle and Pomeranian He has the coloring and stocky Beagle build, and shows some scent hound tendencies. While his short coat is smooth to touch, we see a bit of Fringe to his pantaloons, a slight fluff to his tail, and "mask" facial markings that suggest Pomeranian DNA. Rocco has soulful Beagle eyes that are a bewitching shade of amber. He has a moderate energy level, and would be satisfied with one to two leisurely leash walks each day, along with frequent potty trips.

Rocco has shown remarkable resilience and good nature as he has adjusted to foster care. He loves everyone, and seems patient and tolerant of routine handling by care givers and vet staff. We think that Rocco would thrive in a calm adult home where he can relax and enjoy his people. Rocco is the ultimate companion dog, after he has a little bit of time to warm up. He is sweet and affectionate and craves human touch from folks who can respect his space. He would be a great addition to a multi-dog home, and but tends to chase cats for sport.

Rocco is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He is in optimal health, although, adopters must commit to a healthy diet, rich in quality protein and Omega fats, as well as a light exercise regimen, and maintain his weight between 20 to 25 pounds. Rocco might tend to overeat if offered too many people treats between meals.

Rocco has been neutered and vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis, and he has been dewormed.
