My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Floyd is a handsome bluetick coonhound mix in need of a new home. He's been living with a couple near New Paltz NY for several years and is crate trained, house-broken, and knows many commands. Floyd has occasional anxieties due to some abuse in his past and the arrival of a baby has put him off balance a bit. Floyd is super loving and will happily cuddle on the couch. He loves to have his ears scratched while giving you a hug and loves to be around his people. Floyd enjoys leashed walks and could be trained to walk off-leash with a bit of work. Floyd is ok home alone for up to 8 hrs (though this seldom happens). He does well with other dogs unless they are young, spastic, in-his-face and then he hides from them.
Training has been important in giving structure and predictability to Floyd's life, so his new home should appreciate and continue this. He can be stubborn like all hounds but has made good progress. Floyd has some allergies which are under control with a specialized diet and allergy meds. Floyd comes from history of abuse and occasionally has baggage show through-- it's best to ensure he has his own space to go to when needed. Floyd has done fine with kids 7 and over, but toddlers and little kids can cause him some anxiety. His optimal home would be with a female or couple in a quiet home with a small fenced yard and another hound or dog that will play with him. A dog about his own age would be best as one of his happiest times was when a foster dog joined the family. Floyd is about 6 years old and weighs about 37 lbs.
