My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

RUDY
Born ~Dec 2016, M, Ruddy Abyssinian Mix
Must be adopted with brother Milo; $300 special fee for pair

Are you looking for a cat that wants to just curl up in your lap and has a throaty purr like an engine? Then look no further. Rudy is one of the most loving cats that I have the pleasure to know. He takes a little bit of time to warm up to you, but when he does, oh my gosh! Rudy is smaller than his brother and fits perfectly into a lap which is where he most wants to be and to be loved on by his people. Rudy is a stunning 9 month old, Ruddy Abyssinian cat with gorgeous copper eyes and a burnished red coat with beautiful belly fur that reminds me of a golden Pheasant feather.

Rudy is not only bonded with his equally handsome brother, but needs the support of his brother, so both boys have to be adopted together. Milo might be the leader in day to day life, but Rudy is the protector. Rudy seems to be the more timid and less confident of the two brothers but is the one to fight for his family and territory. He, too, wants to protect his brother and will come running to him to console him if he hears Milo crying.

When I took the boys to the vet, I had them in the waiting room facing each other, and I look over to see them with paws through the bars touching one another. Or when I had to give ear meds to Milo, Rudy was right by my side, nose kissing or touching his paw to get him through the ordeal. Then there is the time Rudy saw one of my older house cats and puffed up like one of those Halloween scary cat statues. I’ve also seen them do things in unison, which I think is just too cute. Like the time my dad and I were talking to each other, with the boys lying in between us, and both would turn heads at the same time every time we spoke. It was like Milo and Rudy were watching a tennis match.

Rudy is going to need time and lots of attention before he will become the confident cat I know he has in him, though I’m starting to see it emerge as Rudy tends to take his cues from his brother. I remember the first night the brothers came and Rudy had been hiding in the closet all day, only meowing in answer to my talking to him. Late that night, I was sitting on the floor with my back to the room and once Rudy saw that Milo was climbing all over me, he came out and let me pet him for the first time. Now, he can't get enough of loving on me or my parents, and he has the biggest heart, just wanting to love his forever family with his whole heart. I’ve mentioned before that I lovingly refer to the boys as "Tazmanian Love Devils" because they're so effusive in showing their affection when they first see me in the morning or after I’ve been out doing errands. Trying to jump into my lap or up my leg while purring the whole time and nuzzling or nibbling on me.

Taking these two on will require an experienced cat owner, an owner used to the high energy of kittens, and the even higher energy levels of Abyssinian kittens. Milo and Rudy need a lot of stimulation and play time; otherwise, they can get into mischief and high jinks. They love exploring closets and drawers, getting onto desks, doing the balance bar of the headboard, running through the house at top speeds, and trying to see about leaping onto the tops of bookshelves. They’re both extremely smart and can figure their way out of tight corners, figured how the pet door worked all on their own, and even figured who to go to for an extra treat. Rudy especially loves his fur piece on a string and would be willing to chase after it for hours, leaping and spinning after it. I laugh every time I see him playing, especially the other day when he had caught the furry piece and dragged it upstairs to the spare room futon. You could hear the stick rattling over the floor and up the stairs with his brother following close beyond. Both love climbing up to the top of the condo or a shelf, plus getting up onto the windowsill to look at the scenery so a window perch or a couple of tall cat towers would be great. They are young and tend to still chew on things so be careful what is left around the house especially Rudy.

Milo and Rudy will also bring a lot of laughter and love into whatever family is lucky enough to adopt them and that family will have hit the jackpot when it comes to love, affection, and purrsonality. A family that is gone all the time won't work for these two, especially Rudy, as they need someone who works from home or at least someone home more than they're gone. Milo would be okay with other cats or pets in the house, but Rudy hasn't done as well so I think a family where these two could be the only stars is essential. And really, you wouldn't need more than these two to keep you busy. Plus as I mentioned, older kids with cat experience would work for these two as long as you give a little bit of time to Rudy to totally be comfortable.

Rudy is a healthy 9 month old Abyssinian mix kitten. He comes neutered, fully vaccinated, and is microchipped. Rudy eats both wet and dry food plus the occasional Temptation Treat. He has perfect litter box manners, uses scratching posts, and will let you trim his nails.

Rudy is fostered with his brother, Milo, at Juliana's house in Santa Rosa, CA, which is in Sonoma County and can be reached through her email abbytabby@hotmail.com or her cell (707) 694-3733 or through the Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue website
