My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BELLA is an 8-year-old spayed female black lab. Bella weighs 86 pounds, needs to lose about 12 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 6 and up.

DESCRIPTION Bella is an easy going dog who likes to hang out with you no matter what you are doing. She hasn't figured out what she is doing with us rather than a home but I told her we can fix that. Outside she hasn't shown much interest in toys yet but we were told she likes to play with balls, Frisbee's and tug toys. She likes to go for walks, rides and hang out with you. She quickly makes friends with new people. Owners took on walks morning and nights and played in yard with her. She would love a home with a yard to stretch her legs while and explore. Kids 6 and up, lives with boys with no problems. She is good with other dogs but thinks small dogs are rabbits which she chases and catches. Doesn't like dogs that come up to her and get in her face, once properly introduced she is fine. Lived with a cat and a parrot, she teased the parrot, got bit then left it alone. Knows basic commands, sit, lay down (point finger at floor) and come. Pulls some on lead good with an easy walk harness. House and crate trained does not need a crate. Had free run of the house when owners gone. Hasn't been crated since she was a puppy. Didn't like to go in their pool as she fell in when she was a puppy.
Bella is an owner give up due to son allergies. They have had Bella for about 5 months they got her from a friend who was moving and couldn't take her with them. They have tried everything to keep her with them but son's allergies are getting worse and doctor recommended that they find a new home for her.

Update: Bella is a girl who loves people and especially children. She is well behaved in the house, and had no accidents. She waits patiently by my bed for me to awake in the morning, and has not awoken me once since I got to foster her. When I leave her alone in she is well behaved and does not need to be crated. She enjoys being close to me, and lies down next to me when I work on the computer. She has learned quickly not to beg at the table (she IS on a diet after all!). She walks well on an Easy Walk harness. She knows a few commands (sit and down) but would benefit from some training, especially on heeling. Bella is good with most other dogs, but has come across a few that she didn't appreciate. She should be introduced properly to other dogs and would not do well in a dog park type environment. Oh, and she lost FOUR pounds and now weighs 86. Way to go Bella - keep up the good work!

Update: Bella has taken long walks with her foster dad every day and lost her extra weight. She is now in great shape! She loves to meet people and is very gentle. Can be left alone in the house all day. She likes to be in the same room with her foster dad and sits by his side while he reads or works on the computer. She is a real "love."

Adopters must meet these requirements:
Setting: Rural, Suburban
Dwelling: Single Family Home
Fencing: Needs fence either physical or underground.

Bella is from a suburban area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. To avoid this, for now we are limiting placement to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more from the dog's time spent in foster, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.

This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP.
