My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BeeGee was surrendered to Ugly Mutts when her owner was no longer able to care for her due to a severe illness. She is a young dog, just 14 months old and was bought for the previous owner in hopes that she would be a good companion for the woman. Although this was done with only good intentions, the woman was far more ill than was realized and after caring for BeeGee in her nursing home, it finally came to the point where she was unable to even care for herself let alone a little dog.

BeeGee has had all her medical needs attended to along the way and has had no health issues. She is a happy, albeit scared, very healthy little girl. She will need her yearly vaccinations updated at the end of September and does have a few months left of her heartworm preventative which will come with her. BeeGee is also microchipped.

During the time she lived with her previous owner she was never taken outside (or not much at least) and basically lived indoors with her only other animal friends being cats. (She really loves cats and is very happy when she sees them and will give them kisses.) Other than going out on the balcony to do her business, she lived in the room with the woman.

When she came into foster care she was timid but trusting. She will allow you to do whatever you want with her but everything is new and strange to her so she needs someone that will be patient and kind. She loves to sit in your lap but will happily lie at your feet as well. She did learn the stairs with a bit of help and her foster mom is working on getting her to do her business outside in the yard rather than on papers but that will be a work in progress for whoever adopts her or, they could just continue using pee-pads if they prefer.

The groomer said she was very good and as we stated, although shy she is very amenable and will do whatever you ask of her. Also note that BeeGee has hair and not fur and will need to be brushed regularly. She is non-shedding, hypo-allergenic and will require haircut from time to time. See her before and after grooming pic.

BeeGee is easy to walk on a leash mainly due to her small size. It doesn’t appear that she has been taught any real commands but she is smart and young so that shouldn’t take long. It is obvious that she was being fed people food but she listens very well when told to stop begging.

She is a very friendly little dog overall and just needs someone to help her gain confidence by working on her socialization skills and slowly helping her to figure out the world at large. She weighs just over 8 lbs. We have introduced her to dogs of all sizes both smaller and much larger than herself and she was good with all of them. She obviously has not had any bad experiences in her short life and was treated as a beloved pet. So other than being unsure of herself, she does trust fairly easily and warms up quickly to anyone. As mentioned above, she loves the cats in her foster home.

We don’t see any reason for BeeGee to stay in fostercare for any length of time and would like to see her bonding with her new family rather than her foster family. We feel a quick adoption will aid in her overall transition. We do feel that due to her size and trusting nature, that she should not go with very young children and would only consider a family with children over the age of 8 years.

BeeGee really needs someone who is looking for a little companion. She will want to be with you all the time and that includes sleeping in your bed at night. She is not so needy that she needs to be constantly held but she does want to be near you wherever you are and will follow you about the house. Whoever adopts her needs to be kind and compassionate to her issues and give her time to gain confidence and learn skills. She is really just a baby and should never be treated harshly. She is a very endearing, loving and affectionate little dog that will make someone a wonderful pet.
