Rex is a very handsome black and white American Field Bred English Setter who is just about to celebrate his first birthday on February 2nd. He is a teenager in dog years and anyone who has raised a teenage- knows that with age comes maturity! His perfect home will offer him lots of unconditional love, a fenced in yard to run and play, and plenty of cuddle time. Rex is housebroken, crate trained, neutered, up to date on all of his vaccines, and heartworm negative. He does have a bit of seperation anxiety due to the fact that his previous adopter left him in a cage for many long hours every day which added to his stress. While he felt safe around the dogs in that home- he will need time to feel comfortable around new dogs as he wasn't socialized enough as a puppy. Rex will need a patience adopter to help him build his confidence and get over some of his seperation anxiety issues. Currenty at his new foster home- he has proven to be a wonderful house guest but when he finds his forever home- he will need time to adjust especially with his confidence issues.

Rex comes when he is called and knows some basic obedience (i.e. sit, come, laydown, crate). He weighs 60lbs and is eager to please considering his lack of training. He is good around children of all ages but because he is still a a young dog and some of his bad habits were not addressed, he would do better in a home with older kids.

Due to the fact that many of our dogs have come from shelters or abuse or neglect situations, and unless we have tested these dogs on upland birds and feel they are confident and ready to work as a hunter with families where they will be trained with kindness and patience, we will only adopt to pet homes.

All adoptions include vaccinations, deworming, microchips, spaying or neutering, collar, leash and an information adoption packet. All IBR dogs are crate trained, housebroken, socialized with other dogs and loved on by their human foster parents. Adoption fees are used to cover vetting expenses and special need dogs' vetting care. All adopters must also have safe fenced in yards and be non-smoking homes.

If you are interested in adopting this pet, please fill out an online adoption application.

8 Ways You Can Save A Life

Help support IBR with the purchase of a 2009 12 Month Wall Calendar and choose from Pointers, Setters, Hunting Dogs, Mutts & Friends and Puppies. All of the dogs and puppies featured in these calendars would have been euthanized in shelters across the Mid-West had IBR not stepped in to save them. Your support can really make a difference!!

Check out our new Ebay Store with fundraising shirts featuring several birddog breeds like Pointers, Setters, GSP's, Vizslas, and Labradors. All purchases will help off set our high vetting expenses and may also help pay for food for some of our long term senior and special needs foster dogs in rescue. Make a donation or sponsor a homeless dog. Illinois Birddog Rescue has always prided itself in not turning away any sick and injured dogs; animals that most shelters would have euthanized. We have saved many dogs with heartworm, tick borne illnesses, broken legs, missing legs, blind dogs, a new deaf puppy, dogs suffering from Parvo and especially senior dogs that may need expensive health care to help them get ready for adoption. In February of 2006, in one weekend, we brought in 20+ dogs from the Boat Mountain Tragedy, and that depleted our emergency funds. Please help us continue to help those birddogs that have suffered terrible abuse and suffering by making an online donation here:

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Rex- ADOPTION PENDING!, a Wood Dale English Setter/Setter (Unknown Type) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a English Setter/Setter (Unknown Type) for sale in Wood Dale, or seeking a English Setter/Setter (Unknown Type) dog from a breeder in Wood Dale.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Wood Dale already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Wood Dale breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even English Setter/Setter (Unknown Type) breeders who help with English Setter/Setter (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Wood Dale paves the way for another one to be saved.
