Lena's Story...
INITIAL BIO 01/26/09: MEET LENA! She is 5 y/o and weighs 8.7#. She's the newest little yorkie girlie in Florida who was rescued from certain death today at a high-kill shelter. This sweet little girl didn't deserve what happened to her; Lena was picked up as a stray; UYR had been following her to make sure she wasn't euthanized and we were happy when we heard from our rescue contacts that Lena had been adopted. Sadly, Lena was returned to the shelter because she had developed kennel cough. Her owner didn't want this beautiful girl anymore and returned her, leaving her with the possibility of being put to sleep.

All of us in rescue, as well as many dog owners, are familiar with kennel cough which is basically, a common doggie cold. While it is uncomfortable for the dog and the owner (who has to listen to the dog cough and sneeze for a week or two), it is most certainly curable. Lena is a healthy young girl with a strong spirit. She deserves love, compassion and a home where she will never have to worry about being "thrown away" again. While we are still learning about sweet Lena, it appears that she likes other dogs although she is very scared right now. She's been through a lot in the past couple of weeks; we are focusing on getting Lena well and giving her all the love and attention she needs (along with some good medication) so that she makes a full recovery. Stay tuned for updates on this little girl!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Lena, a Fairfax Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier for sale in Fairfax, or seeking a Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier dog from a breeder in Fairfax.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Fairfax already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Fairfax breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier breeders who help with Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Fairfax paves the way for another one to be saved.
