My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Baxter is a young, handsome red & white Beagle boy that came from a shelter in Virginia. He must have been someone's hunting dog because he was wearing an orange hunting collar when he was found. Nobody ever reported him missing or came to the shelter to reclaim him. Baxter is approx. 2-3 years old and weighs 30 pounds. He is current on his shots, neutered, heartworm neg. (on preventative), and microchipped.

He's friendly, playful and outgoing with everybody as well as other dogs, though his enthusiastic style of play may be too rough for older or smaller dogs. Baxter likes to chase cats so he will need a home without kitties. He'd be perfectly content to be an only pet .

Like most young dogs, Baxter would benefit from some basic obedience training. With the help of a volunteer dog walker, he's been practicing his leash manners and showing improvement with regular long walks. He's a 'typical Beagle" - very idependent and loves to put his nose to the ground and track scents, wherever they may lead him. He will require the security of a Beagle-proof fenced yard (not "invisible" or underground fencing) in order to keep him safely contained. He's a great dog that would be a wonderful addition to an adult household or one with older children that would be less likely to accidentally allow him to escape. Prior experience with Beagles would be a big plus.

Baxter is just one of the many wonderful dogs available for adoption through our Rescue. Like every dog, he deserves a loving, forever home where he will always be safe, well fed, and know what it feels like to be loved

IMPORTANT: Safe Hounds Beagle Rescue does not operate a shelter where the public can meet our dogs. All of our Beagles are cared for in a loving foster home. Prospective adopters MUST submit an adoption application and be pre-approved to adopt. Once an applicant is approved, we’ll begin a matching process—the right dog for the right home. Submitting an application does not guarantee that you will be approved. Please visit our web page: www.safehounds.com to learn more about the adoption process and to download our adoption application.

Unable to adopt? Please consider sponsoring a Beagle. By helping us we can continue to make a difference in the lives of these deserving dogs. We have many hungry hounds to feed and are always in need of dog food and other items from our wish list as well as financial support to help us meet the needs of the dogs in our care. PayPal is the easiest way to donate - it's, fast free, and secure!
