My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When we first saw Richard, we thought he looked so much like a lion, that he should be called Richard the Lion-hearted. It didn’t take long to realize that he’s really more like Richard the Cowardly Lion -- and just like the lion that followed the yellow brick road, Richard is bashful, but very sweet and deeply devoted, once he has made a friend.

You can see that he really does look like a lion; he definitely has some Maine Coon in his background with that gorgeous mane, fluffy coat, and big feet. His fur is very soft, and he adores being combed, all over, several times a day if possible. He has some brown tabby striping on his back and tail, with gold and white highlights all over, and big green eyes. He purrs himself into state of bliss while being fussed over, and will give you many head butts and kisses in appreciation.

Richard doesn’t seem to have much experience with toys, but he’s quite fond of his big catnip mouse and has a good wrestle with it every day. Other than that, he’s really content to snooze and look out the window and wait for someone to come do his hair and cuddle for awhile. He’s vocal, but in a very mild-mannered way; more social than demanding.

He was rescued as a stray, but he had been neutered and was in generally good health (just mighty hungry!), so he did have a home and family at some point. He has excellent litter box habits. Richard recently had a complete check-up, including a dental exam and cleaning. He tested negative for FIV and FeLV and is up to date on vaccines. He is four years old.

Although he is gaining confidence every day in his foster home, Richard is intimidated by the other cats and will need a home with at most one other mellow cat. He’d prefer a quiet home with gentle people who will allow him to adjust at his own pace. A patient person who understands cats will find Richard to be a loving and easy-going companion.

Please note, we adopt out to the following counties: Clackamas, Multnomah, Washington and Clark.
