My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Thank you for saving the life of a shelter pet! Specific descriptions of each pet and their LOCATION follow in the paragraph below. To expedite the adoption process, please be certain to read all of the information carefully included in the pet's description. Some of our pets are in FOSTER HOMES, some are in Petsmart in WASHINGTON or MONROEVILLE, and some at the SHELTER. STEP ONE: Please fax your application to the number listed in the pets description, NOT necessarily the fax number on the application and please inquire to the person in the pet's description. Please include all specific questions about the pet in the cover of your fax. This process will ensure that your place is held in the adoption process as we may not be able to answer email inquiries in a timely manner. IF no number is listed in the pets' desription, please fax DOG applications to 724-627.4160 and CAT applications to 610.819.0335. The shelter cannot answer questions about the pet's placed in foster homes and the foster homes will not have much information on the pets at the shelter. We request that you please do not call the shelter on inquiries as we are not staffed to handle volumes of calls.

Lock and Shock are housed together. Lock is an all-black, male, domestic short-hair, about nine months old. Shock is a domestic long-hair, black male, with a white patch on his chest. 02/18/2009

The youngest kittens we have at this time (2/28/09) will be at Petsmart in Monroeville 3/3 and are 5 months old and there are only three so act quickly and visit and apply for them. We do not have any newborns or even any pregnant moms at the shelter, so it will likely be close to Memorial Day or possibly later before there are small kittens. If you are interested it the older kittens we have in foster care, please FAX your application to 610.819.0335. You may email BUT please understand it may take us a couple of business days to respond and I might have another application by then. Applications do take several BUSINESS days to process since we cannot get in touch with vet references, landlords etc. on weekends and holidays. There have been no babies for some time which means there will be very few, if any, little ones available until May or June. There are many wonderful older babies, 6 months to a year, to pick from NOW.

ASPCA and HSUS reserach recommends, for the health and welfare of our kittens, major preference should be given to those homes adopting in pairs or to a home that has a kitten the same age. We hope you are interested in doing the best thing for your future family member. In general, young kittens do not fare well by themselves, either in a home or in a cage. They get very lonely, stressed out, depressed, and sometimes bored and destructive if left alone. This is why we strongly urge adoption in pairs or to a home with another kitten close in age. We hope you understand that it is our mission to do what is best for the ANIMALS. Vet references are preferred. Incomplete applications are likely to be delayed or not processed. Similarly, and contrary to popular belief, most adult cats are MUCH happier and healthier with a feline pal. IF you are considering adopting a cat, we encourage adopting two at the same time as it makes adjustment for everyone easier (and no one owns the territory). There are some exceptions and if you only want one cat we have some who would prefer to be only kitties, just email us at bestfurryfriends@gmail.com and we'll help you find your next best furry friend!!

Can't adopt right now? We can sure use your help!! We need cash (always), high quality canned cat and kitten food (Nutro, Science Diet), litter, KMR and KMR 2nd Step formula for orphans, blankets, beds, carriers, toys (new or used as long as they are clean), did we say litter, and more litter, gift cards to Petsmart, Petco, Pet Supplies, Revolution Flea Treatment ... the list is endless but any help you can give is GREATLY appreciated!!!!

We are overrun with cats and older kittens and DESPERATELY need your help to save lives. More people are looking this time of year and there are less pets available, so if you see something you like, fax your application in right away. Our shelter is not staffed to answer numerous phone calls, so we ask that you please fax in your application and we will contact you for an interview. Please don't call and don't wait for email replies before faxing because the pet of your dreams could go to someone else! Older puppies and kittens and adults make amazing pets. They know you saved them and they appreciate it every day of their life! If you have specific questions about the cat, please include these on the cover sheet and we will do our best to get them answered. But animals behave differently in a shelter environment than they do in a home.

There are many adults that need homes and many to choose from and you KNOW the personality you are getting with an adult, kittens can change and will as they get older. Most cats are much happier when they have a friend near their own age to play with. They will be healthier, not tend to gain as much weight, and will be much happier pets if you take home two!! Young, small kittens tend to be rough if not adopted with another their own age, Often these pets are stray and we know very little about them. If you have specific questions about an animal, please email us and we will do our best to find the answers for you. Please use both the name and the referencenumber so we can be certain that we get you the answers about the correct pet.

We DESPERATELY need donations of CAT LITTER and PREMIUM cat and kitten food (no colored foods please, it gives them the runs!). Or giftcard from PETCO and PETsMART can be sent to us if you cannot come visit!

Because there is often great demand for certain cats, we encourage you to fax your Fully completed application in right away to 610.819.0335
Are you interested in adopting? instructions can be found on our home page: http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/PA252.html APPLICATION: http://www.greenepet.org/adoption.html

Please fill out an application and fax it into the shelter. We will contact you for an interview once your references have been checked. An incomplete application will delay the process and may result in the desired pet being placed elsewhere. Thanks so much for adopting a shelter pet!!!

We love our rescues and we take great care in finding the right pet for your home and the right home for our pets. Our adoption process may take several BUSINESS days as we must verify several EXTREMELY IMPORTANT bits of information: vet references , home ownership or landlord's permission to have pets, employment, and other personal references. Once these are verified we will contact you for a phone interview with the foster parent (if possible) or the shelter director. We understand this may be a little intrusive but unfortunately it is necessary as we see many cases of abuse and neglect. We hope you will understand that this process means we really care about our pets and aren't looking to just place them in any home and that our process is meant only to ensure that the pets will have a stable environment with a family that can meet standards of care. Most of them have come from homes that did not, so we cannot risk putting them into the wrong home. We also hope you will understand that we may not approve you for the pet you applied for, but might recommend a better fit for your home and lifestyle. For example, if you have young children we may not recommend herding dogs or kittens. Or if you are a senior citizen, we may recommend an adult dog or cat that will be less likely to get underfoot. There are many factors to be considered in finding the right pet and we do our best to cover all of them. Please be certain to completely fill out the application as incomplete applications may be delayed or not processed. All vet information is pertinent, so please include names and phones numbers and give them a call in advance to allow them to speak with us. Thank you for your patience and we will try to process your application as soon as possible. We want our pets in the new fur-ever homes ASAP! And again, we thank you for saving the life of a shelter pet!!
