My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sophie is Adopted

Sophie is currently fostered in Mentor Ohio, and her adoption fee/donation is $150

Update 7-29-18
Sophie is becoming reactive when approached to quickly by dogs and humans if you do not have her attention first. For this reason we would recommend no children in the home that adopts her.

Update 6-29-18
After several Vet visits and trying different eye medications, the vet feels her eyes are responding to the meds, and is no longer suggesting eye removal. She has overcome the infections, and inflamed tissue causing her eyes to be painful. We have been doing trials with her eyes, so I apologize for the time lapse. We were waiting to see if we would move forward with the surgery to remove both eyes. She is doing so much better now, and although the meds are somewhat pricey, not terrible, we have made the decision along with the Veterinarians at Big Creek, NOT to remove the eyes. This is the best case scenario for her!!! She is now happy and content, not digging at and rubbing painful inflamed dry eyes. She will always be blind, but that certainly does not stop her!!!

Original post
Sophie is a 7 yr old female cocker spaniel, she came to our rescue after her elderly owner passed away.
She is completely BLIND in BOTH EYES, so she is considered special needs, however she gets around very very well like any other dog with full vision.
She goes up and down stairs, and jumps up on couches, laps with no trouble.
She is a very very sweet and playful little girl.
In fact, I say little because she only weighs 15 lbs, she is a very tiny cocker.
She is house trained, crate trained, and gets along with other dogs, however she can be alpha, and will get bossy/pushy with others at times.
She is used to being an only dog, and would probably be happiest as the one and only in her home.

Sophie was born with juvenile cataracts that were never managed medically, and the cataracts progressed very quickly, she has been blind since she was 2-3 yrs old.
She also is having other issues such as dry eye, and has eyelashes that are turned inward, (this is called Entropion) and they are very irritating to her eyes.
Our vet feels it would be best for us to have her eyes removed to avoid further issues such as glaucoma which will cause more pain, and she is a high risk for developing this disease.
Currently she needs expensive medicated drops to her eyes 3 times a day along with wiping the debris out of them, and she whines/whimpers if you touch near her eyes to wipe/clean them.
She will be scheduled in the near future for this surgery, and will be available once she is healed.
Many Many dogs do very very well without eyes, in fact, once they are removed, she will feel so much better, and since she is used to her blindness, that wont even be an issue for her.
Also, her hair/fur is really soft and beautiful, it grows like bangs in her face, and looks really cute, she will have long bangs that will cover that part of her face, and it will be hard to tell she had her eyes removed.

Sophie is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative.
