Janet's Story...
Hello there, folks. I’m Janet. I am a Lab/Basenji mix who has come here to FOHA along with my sister Chrissy and my brother Jack. Are you getting the theme? Here’s a hint – they say Three’s Company, but… Well, I don’t know that I consider any amount of loving people and dogs a crowd, do you? The more playmates, the merrier. How did my siblings and I end up homeless? We had a home of sorts in rural Virginia – well, we were all together, at least. But this was definitely not a deluxe apartment in the sky, as I’ve heard mentioned elsewhere. This was a modified chicken coop in the backyard with a fenced-in pen for us to run. Sure, we had shelter, straw to keep us warm, but not exactly the best digs. Add to that the fact that our elderly owners were infirmed and unable to care for us properly, and now you understand our former existence. We were, in fact, on our way to a kill shelter if FOHA had not opened their doors to us. I must admit that at first we were a little concerned upon arriving at FOHA, as our former existence was the only way of life we knew.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Janet, a Aldie Retriever (Unknown Type)/Basenji dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Retriever (Unknown Type)/Basenji for sale in Aldie, or seeking a Retriever (Unknown Type)/Basenji dog from a breeder in Aldie.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Aldie already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Aldie breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Retriever (Unknown Type)/Basenji breeders who help with Retriever (Unknown Type)/Basenji rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Aldie paves the way for another one to be saved.
