Penguin's Story...
Penguin is a sweet, gentle, affectionate cat, about 1 or 1½ years old. He could live with another cat or cats, or alone. He is calm around children and should do well as a family pet.

Penguin’s name comes from his classy tuxedo coloring. He also has an extra white smudge on his forehead to show you just where to start your fingers when you rub his head. Don’t be fooled when he tells you you haven’t found the right spot yet – he’s just trying to get more petting!

Penguin was abandoned on the streets of D.C., where a 4Paws volunteer realized he was not part of the feral cat colony he was trying to live with. He is happy to be indoors and safe again, and shows his appreciation with rubs and purrs. He is somewhat anxious about food – not surprising given his history – and should have a bowl or plate of his own so he doesn’t have to share with another cat.

Penguin is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. He has tested negative for FeLV/FIV and heartworm.

Penguin, a Merrifield Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Merrifield, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Merrifield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Merrifield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Merrifield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Merrifield paves the way for another one to be saved.
