Here's what the humans have to say about me:
ELPHABA
Siamese Egyptian Mau mix Born 4/14/09
Elphaba's mother is a beautiful Sealpoint Siamese. We think mom may
have been a bit of a tramp because her kittens look to have come from a
couple of different daddies. Did she come from a kitten mill where she
was allowed to run around and breed with several different daddies? Cuz
one of her babies looks like a Maine Coon and this little thing looks
like an Egyptian Mau. We'll never know. What we do know is that Elphaba
looks like some of the Egyptian Mau kittten's we've had in Rescue. Last
year we had two litters of kittens from purebred Egyptian Mau moms. OMG!
Elphaba looks like them. If you do a search online for photos of Smoke
Egyptian Mau you will see what this kitten looks like. Right down to
those rich gooseberry green eyes which is one of the defining breed
characteristics. As an interesting aside, breeders in Britain tried to
create Maus using Siamese & Abyssineans. These cats became the basis for
the Ocicat breed. But we digress:
The smoke Egyptian Mau is very rare, less than 400 exist in the United
States the last time we heard. We currently have a registered Egyptian
Mau in Rescue who has fewer of the Mau characteristics than Elphaba. Go
figure. Had we seen Elphaba sitting alone in a shelter we might have
assumed she was a purebred kitten that had gotten lost. Since we have
her mom and siblings we know she is a very beautiful and fortuitous mix.
Still, if you want the look and personality of a rare purebred, we won't
tell your friends she's not a purebred if you don't!
Elphaba is fostered in Davis .
