My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If we had to give Shani had another name it might be Hope or Faith - without it Shani might not be here today. Her story is truly an inspiration to us all! When we rescued Shani from the pound she was very ill. She had lost most of her hair and her body was covered in sores from a non-contagious skin condition that's easily treatable. Unfortunately Animal Control was not equipped to care for her and so she was placed on the "kill list" twice. One of employees at the pound took her off the list in hopes that a rescue group would save her, no one came and so back on the list she went. And then RESCUE came, just hours before she was scheduled to be put to sleep, we took one look, and knew we could help.

A loving family volunteered to take Shani into foster care. On our first visit to the vet, we found out Shani had developed a serious secondary infection that could take a turn for the worst. We didn't give up hope and neither did Shani, she's a fighter! It was a long process but week after week, Shani started to get better, her hair began to grow back and the sores on her body healed. Now just a little over three months after her rescue, she's 100-percent better now, completely healed! Our beautiful Shani doesn't need any additional medical treatment and can now focus on being that smart, loving, playful, spunky dog that she is!

Her foster family describes her as a snuggly, curious, and content. She's quite the character and has a secret stash of squeaky toys she hides in a closet away from her foster brothers. She also loves her foster family's desert tortoise and steals his crunchy lettuce from him! Right now, Shani wants nothing more than a loving family and home to call her own. Her ideal family would be pretty active and have time to take her long walks around the neighborhood. She's very social and would love to have doggie brothers and sisters around. Shani is our little miracle and we're certain she's going to make one lucky family very happy!

Shani had an terrible case of Demodex when we rescued her. She weighed 6.6 pounds. Now Shani is about 9 pounds!!!!
